We recorded in a concrete tank in a water tower to capture the acoustics and add this as IR set to the collection for Altiverb 8. The result is what you hear on the guitar track in this video. This is the first concrete cylindrical tank we have in our collection. Measuring 10m diameter and 9 meters high, we had to buy special carrying rigs to get up the top of the tower and descent into this cistern one with our Genelec 1032 monitor speakers and our custom built vis-spin microphone stand. This water storage tank did not dissapoint us. Listening back to it this place has every bit of weirdness you would expect from a 7.0.4 atmos 600 cubic meter concrete cylindrical water reservoir. In 2026, at 99 years of age, the tank will be destroyed as the building will turn into a hotel.

During one of our trips to Scotland to capture acoustics we got side tracked and Arjen played a tin whistle. The Hamilton Mausoleum, only 18 meters across, is one of those truly marvellous places in that exceptional category where you are immediately inspired to sing with yourself. It shares that invitation with only very few spaces we have visited, like Vigeland’s Mausoleum in Oslo, or Gol Gumbaz in Bijapur India. If, as a music or sound person, you are left alone in this space, you are guaranteed to have a great time, for quite some time. On a 220 Hz note ( ‘Jude’ from Hey Jude) it has a reverberation time three times the length of Kings College Chapel in Cambridge (known from the BBC broadcast on Christmas Eve) and twice the length of Rouen cathedral, the tallest cathedral in France. The acoustics of the Hamilton Mausoleum are carefully captured by Audio Ease and are now available for you to use in Altiverb 8.

The acoustics of the Millerntor Stadium St. Pauli Hamburg, Germany are now available in Altiverb 8. Three constellations were sampled. Two of them on the field using triple QSC KW153 speakers combined into a surround speaker, and one using the installed public address system. Recorded using 6 DPA 4006, an AMBEO, and two DPA 4090 microphones, in a baffled wind protected rig. The recordings were accomplished thanks to the tireless efforts of Philipp Feit, Chief Creative Officer at Audio-Agentur 'German Wahnsin', who after a year of trying secured a timeslot with relative silence. It is the home stadium of Sankt Pauli FC, the legendary anti-Fascist left wing professional soccer team. One of the two speaker locations. We also sampled this same location with the speaker facing two other directions. These three settings were then combined to create one surround firing speaker. The other location was mid field and the third option in Altiverb is using the stadium's PA speakers. One of the three positions for the microphones. The mics are heavily protected from the wind.

New in Altiverb 8: De Vereeniging What looks like a wooden church is actually a Masonic lodge. The building combines Jugendstil (Art-Nouveau) elements and Chalet style. The building was originally designed to also host small stage or musical performances. The height of the main hall is 11 meters and it has a balcony. The sound is so universably useful that it was in our top 5 when we chose a new default IR for Altiverb 8

New in Altiverb 8: Radio Kootwijk This is a radio transmitter station built in 1919 to maintain connections between The Netherlands and Indonesia. All (forest) growth in over a thousand acres around it was cut to achieve a clear transmission. There was no road to it. Building-A is the large space where the transmitter was.

Another legendary studio sound is available in the Altiverb 8 collection: The German Studio Dierks. Dierks Studios 1 is a large but contained recording space, speckled with golden and platinum records, oozing history of Krautrock and early seventies synth pioneers. Dierks Studios 3 is a large and lively stone room, where the iconic drumsound of the Scorpions was crafted.

Legendary Osaka venue Misono Universe hosted their last ever show yesterday night. The 70-year-old building is set to be demolished later this year. So a few months ago, in close collaboration with Audio Ease, a group of engineers set up Genelec 1237A and 18 DPA 4006 positions to capture the space in great detail up to 9.0.6 atmos configurations. We are very proud to have been able to bring this acoustic conservation project to a result without compromises, even though our engineers were half a globe apart. A great thank you to the japanese crew: Kenichi Koga, Shuichi Tanaka, Kentaro Oguro, Masafumi Gotoh (ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION) and Hiroki Yoshii, and also to Koji Ogura, Audio Ease's main man in Japan. You will find Misono Universe, as always for free, in Altiverb's browser's news tab.
