The times they have been... uh, busy! Had the pleasure of revisiting one of the first shows I ever worked on. Amazing team, and bless 'em, they're all nerds like me. We wrapped up a little early so we could all catch the eclipse. Was a good day in my book.
Gonna start posting more recent stuff soon, but I've got quite the backlog of projects to talk about, so I'll start with one of my favorites.
I was lucky enough to work with the late great (destroyer of pretzels) Alan Arkin. Every session on Minions 2 was a whirlwind of creative energy and activity. Every time that I would feel completely in over my head, or imposter syndrome would creep in over my shoulder, I'd look over at Alan, cool as a cucumber, munching on some pretzels and thinking of his next wisecrack to make, and I'd feel a brief moment of zen. I'm so thankful for all the little things I learned on that gig, and I'm thankful that I got to spend a bit of time and have a couple laughs with such a character.
*bonus story!*
Another one of my favorite stories about this project... When they were doing the big advertising push for the premiere, it was the first time I couldn't escape something I had worked on. Billboards, commercials, and every little bit of merch you could think of. I was at a gas station and right next to the register they were selling some Minions 2 branded candy or something. Chatting with the clerk, I mentioned that I actually worked on that movie and that it was weird seeing all this stuff over town. They gave me a puzzled look, and after a moment they let out a long drawn out, "buuuuuuuullllllll...." and handed my credit card back to me. I just laughed and left it at that, but thinking about that interaction still makes me chuckle to this day.
Moral of those stories, I guess? Don't take yourself too seriously. 😉
