¿Cómo se oye la voraz expansión de un MONOCULTIVO? ¿Es posible oír la erradicación de una semilla nativa? ¿Puede SONAR la pérdida de un paisaje? Conoce la obra HISTORIA DE DOS SEMILLAS del COLECTIVO ATRACTOR en la exposición ESPESURAS, HABITAR UN MUNDO HERIDO, una colaboración de Explora con el Museo La Tertulia de Cali, con el apoyo de la Fundación Sura. Esta instalación, premiada en el Ars Electrónica Festival 2023, es un testimonio sonoro del paisaje andino después de la expansión de los monocultivos transgénicos de soya. La agroindustria en América Latina ha transformado los ecosistemas, ha privatizado las semillas y ha puesto en peligro la soberanía sobre la tierra. A partir de grabaciones subterráneas de la conductividad de plantas de SOYA y AMARANTO, la obra revela cómo los sonidos del territorio cambian de una especie a otra: “El SONIDO actuará como testigo de la lucha por los nutrientes y el conjunto de complejas relaciones entre las dos plantas”. Para el COLECTIVO ATRACTOR, la TECNOLOGÍA, desde nuestro contexto latinoamericano, es un campo de lucha en el que las artes electrónicas pueden crear conversaciones y espacios comunitarios de diálogo. El grupo de artistas de Atractor trabaja con técnicas de la ingeniería mecánica, electrónica e informática y se enfoca en la visualización de fenómenos naturales y socioculturales, no solo de la cultura hegemónica occidental, sino también de otros modos de saber y entender lo científico. En ESPESURAS, I+S 20 ARTISTAS que hacen parte de esta curaduría nos instan a pensar en el desequilibrio actual para adoptar una perspectiva de INTERDEPENDENCIA en la que nada existe ni sobrevive en soledad. Cuestionamos la separación entre CULTURA y NATURALEZA que reduce lo natural a “recursos”, a bienes susceptibles de extracción y control, para entender que la CRISIS CLIMÁTICA no es solo un problema ambiental, es una crisis civilizatoria con raíces en la inequidad.

Now at Fact Liverpool, our exhibition ‘Cosmotechnics’, Atractor Estudios and Semantica alongside Patricia Domínguez and Rebeca Romero, curated by Beatrice Zaidenberg. “Cosmotechnics challenges the idea that technology is the same everywhere and across all cultures. The artists draw inspiration from plant life to reimagine technology as evolving and ever-changing, reflecting and respecting our diverse societies, ecologies and cultures. In the exhibition, technology transforms into an ally for resilience, resistance, and growth, whereby the concept of 'cosmotechnics' is put into practice. This term was coined by the Chinese philosopher Yuk Hui, where ‘cosmos’ refers to locality and ‘techne’ to technological creations. Hui argues that technology’s true potential lies in its alignment with local cosmologies —spiritual, ecological, and cultural understandings of the world. Using sculpture, video, and sound to create immersive installations, the artists reveal how local ways of thinking and sensing can offer multiple perspectives on technology. Last week at #COP16 @atractorestudio and @semantica_studios exhibited ‘A Tale of Two Seeds’ at the @museolatertulia , as part of the exhibition ‘Espesuras’ which will go on tour around Colombia. This immersive sound installation allows the audience to walk around reimagined soy and amaranth roots whilst listening to a soundtrack inspired by recordings we took from above and below the soil in the Los Llanos region where monocultures are rife and also from an area of polycultures, rich in biodiversity.

We’ll be featuring at the @entertainmentculturepavilion @climatelive and @extremehangout . @jemma___foster will be talking plants and projects with @ariasaleja at Climate Live Pavilion in the Blue Zone this morning, along with a screening and discussion of Roots and Huito. Tomorrow, we will be hosting an interactive plant lab and screening installation projects from Semantica and @atractorestudio : A Tale of Two Seeds, On Vegetal Politics and a new augmented-reality version of Botanica Transgenica, along with app Geomantra at Extreme Hangout and Entertainment and Culture Pavilion. Propone repensar las relaciones entre tecnología, especies no humanas y cultura, buscando escenarios imaginarios alternativos que promuevan la biodiversidad y resistencia frente a los desafíos globales actuales. 🌀𝑺𝑼𝑩𝑳𝑰𝑴𝑬, del artista Jorge Bandera ( @jorgebanderamartinez ) , es una pieza que surge de una reflexión sobre la vida después de la muerte, explorando el concepto de trascendencia desde una perspectiva que combina elementos espirituales y científicos, sin connotaciones religiosas. SUBLIME se basa en la premisa fundamental de la Ley de Conservación de la Energía. 🌀 𝑻𝒊𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒐 𝑨𝒗𝒆 ,del artista John Melo ( @zhomelo ) , es un proyecto audiovisual experimental que reflexiona sobre cómo las aves desafían la linealidad del tiempo en vuelos espirales que rozan dimensiones superiores. On Friday, October 27, 2023, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cantor Fitzgerald Gallery, we invite you to attend a presentation by curator Barbara London, accompanied by a reception commemorating the launch of the 𝙎𝙚𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 exhibition in which our artpiece 𝙎𝙪𝙥𝙧𝙖𝙡𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙧 is going to be exhibited. 𝙎𝙚𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 is a comprehensive showcase delving into the present direction of sound as a dynamic facet of modern art, curated by Barbara London. It highlights the works of seven globally-based artists including Seth Cluett, Juan Cortés, Auriea Harvey, bani haykal, Yuko Mohri, Aura Satz, and Samson Young. In this exhibition, the artworks manifest as kinetic sculpture, audio-video installations, and technologies responsive to the presence of visitors. The absence of headphones is notable, as the exhibition presents intricate environmental sonic experiences, enabling multiple modes of communal listening within each artwork.
