Modern living changes with time – and Hlynur Atlason (@atlasonstudio ) is there, taking note. The NYC-based designer has carried a briefcase since design school, always packed the same way: camera, iPad, sketchpad, a really good pen. It’s a small habit that says something larger about how he operates. Wherever he is, he's paying attention. That consideration runs through everything he designs, and made him the perfect person to be DWR's first Design Resident.

A curve is right when it’s right,” says Hlynur Atlason (@atlasonstudio ). That certainty – accumulated and instinctual – made him a natural first for the DWR Design Residency. “I don’t see furniture as an exercise in form alone, but as a response to the way we actually live today.”

@glasitalia presents the Akur glass table collection by @atlasonstudio at Salone del Mobile.Milano 2026, marking the designer’s debut with the brand.
Described by Atlason as a table collection for the home, Akur spans consoles, coffee, side and dining tables. Its organic silhouettes in soft, natural tones challenge the rigid logic of glass: legs seem to rise through the top, breaking it into faceted, subtly grooved surfaces.
In satin glass, the pieces shift as light moves, oscillating between solidity, transparency and everyday use.

“When I buy a product, I obsess over it,” Hlynur Atlason (@atlasonstudio ) says. The Icelandic designer works the same way – constantly observing, constantly cataloging. His instinct is reduction: Strip away the unnecessary, leaving only comfort, tactility, and purpose. “There’s enough visual clutter in the world,” he says. “I try not to make things more busy than they need to be.”
From the Atlason Composed Modular Sofa to the new Organic Slab Coffee Table, discover how his precision comes into play in his new collections at the link in bio.
Introducing the DWR Design Residency, a platform for the designers shaping how we live today. It pairs a leading creative with DWR’s full resources, giving them the space, support, and scale to realize ideas at their most ambitious. Hlynur Atlason (@atlasonstudio ) is our inaugural member.
For his debut collections, Atlason asked himself, “What can we offer or add to the conversation of modernism? What are the things that have changed in the way we live and behave?” His answers: furniture built for the way we live now – with room to evolve.

“I’m always interested in how our lives are shifting,” says Icelandic designer Hlynur Atlason (@atlasonstudio ). The exclusive Atlason Composed Sofa Collection channels that curiosity into a modular system that adapts to your needs: Sections expand, curves form gathering zones, and deep seats invite pause.

@esquire called The Atlason Composed Modular Sofa for DWR “the sofa they want to live with for the rest of their lives.” Then they named it Best Designer Sofa of 2026 – naturally, a party was in order.
Last night, we toasted to the @atlasonstudio sofa at our East 57th store in NYC. If you’re in the area, swing by – a variety of configurations and colorways are on display for the next two weeks.

A grid composed of two rows of eight long, obelisk-like rectangles make up GATHER acoustical Eight by Two from new collection Mason by Atlason. The minimally beveled engraving emphasizes the exactingly engineered geometry of the 0.45 NRC tile and make each narrow rectangle feel broader and more definitive, while the grout-like engravings call to mind the collections precision masonry inspirations.
