It was never just a surf park.
When Atlantic Park first met the public, many saw a private surf lagoon, welcomed by surfers but unclear to everyone else. “There was excitement in the surf community,” recalls Alec Yuzhbabenko, “but for a lot of the public, it didn’t feel like theirs yet.”
What unfolded over the better part of a decade, through more than 65 public sessions, was a plan that expanded in scale and complexity, centered on local priorities. “What you see today is uniquely shaped by public input.”

the @stab_high surf competition was such a fun event to attend at @atlanticparksurf in virginia beach 🌊⚡️
it was so cool watching the surfers up close and seeing such a unique surf competition happen right here in virginia beach. the energy around the wave pool was so fun, and there was so much going on between the competition, the crowd, and all the different pop-ups 🏄♂️🌀
i also grabbed a spicy margarita from @alohasnacksvb while i was there and it was amazingggg 🍹
so cool to see virginia beach hosting events like this. it really makes me excited for everything happening at atlantic park and around the city right now ✨

even cooler, this is playa bowls’ 400th location and the owner was born + raised right here in virginia beach, which makes it even more special 🫶
