Située dans la constellation des Gémeaux, cette nébuleuse est en réalité le vestige spectaculaire d’une supernova. Ses filaments complexes et ses nuances orangées et bleutées rappellent une méduse flottant dans l’espace… et cette image en est un parfait exemple 🤯

The Crab Nebula is the remnant of a supernova recorded in 1054 by Chinese, Japanese, and Arab astronomers. Located about 6,500 light-years away in the constellation Taurus, it continues to expand nearly 1,500 km per second.
In just 1,000 years, it has grown to roughly 11 light-years across.
At its heart lies the Crab Pulsar, a 30 km-wide neutron star spinning 30 times per second and emitting radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum ⚡

Vestige d’une supernova observée en 1054 par des astronomes chinois, japonais et arabes, la Crab Nebula se trouve à environ 6 500 années-lumière dans la constellation du Taureau.
En seulement 1 000 ans, elle s’est étendue sur près de 11 années-lumière de diamètre, en expansion à environ 1 500 km/s.
En son centre se trouve le Crab Pulsar, une étoile à neutrons d’à peine 30 km de large, mais 100 000 fois plus énergétique que notre Soleil, tournant 30 fois par seconde ⚡
