🕊️ Tribute to Jo-Anne Robinson, one of the most significant figures in the history of Deaf sports in Canada, who passed away recently. Here are a few highlights that reflect her commitment, both internationally and nationally ✨ Jo-Anne was a Canadian swimmer who competed at the Deaflympics in 1965 and 1969, earning an impressive total of nine medals. She also served as a Canadian delegate at the 29th Annual Congress in Oslo, supporting a bid to host the world’s largest winter event in Banff. She later held the role of Vice-President for the 12th Winter World Games for the Deaf in 1991. Over the years, she continued to serve Canadian sport with distinction, notably as Chef de Mission for Team Canada at the Summer Deaflympics in Rome in 2001, and at the Winter Deaflympics in Salt Lake City in 2007. From 1984 to 1986, she served as President of the Board of Directors of the CDSA, becoming the first woman to hold the position, and the only one to date. Her legacy, both as an athlete and as a leader, will remain a lasting source of inspiration for the Deaf sports community in Canada. 🕊️
