Worlding refers to the active, ongoing process of creating, shaping, and inhabiting worlds, encompassing ecological, "more-than-human" practices of making worlds together. It is viewed as a verb—a practice of storytelling, knowledge-making, and relationality that emphasizes "making worlds together" (sympoiesis). It focuses on creating sustainable relationships with non-human others during ecological crises that challenges the boundaries between a subject and its environment. Worlding is always in motion, a "doing" rather than a finished product. It focuses on how humans and non-humans, subjects and environments, are interconnected. Tracking is the deeper understanding of the systems and patterns that make up the environment surrounding and incorporating us. Tracks and signs offer information on undisturbed, natural behaviour, and is therefore a non-invasive method of intuitive mapping. Tracking requires varying attention, a constant refocusing between minute details of the track and the whole pattern of the environment. It offers an entry point into the idea of decentering the human, a perspective that treats non-human entities (animals, plants, ecosystems) as active, respected participants in a shared existence. This framework emphasizes mutual care, responsibility, and interconnectedness. Rather than seeing nature as a resource, this approach views humans as part of a larger community of related persons (animism). It recognizes that humans cannot thrive without the gifts of other earthly relatives, necessitating a return of care. It is an orientation that asks: "How will I move differently because of what I have received?". This walkshop offers an introduction to "radical, interspecial reciprocity," where the rights and needs of other beings are recognized. Join us on Sunday June 14th 10am-4pm (location in South Devon). Our next all day workshop takes place on Sunday June 14th in South Devon. Worlding - the Workshop, will be led by Sam Kouzarides - home educated in nature and with a background in nature conservation, Sam has a lifelong love of wild places and the skills to navigate them. With a passion for sharing the magic of the wild, he has worked with groups of all ages in the wild landscapes of England and abroad for over ten years. Sam leads a range of programmes in wilderness skills and nature connection, guiding journeys into the wilds of Devon by foot and canoe, as well as leading tracking expeditions to the Kalahari to spend time with indigenous San Bushmen. He works with organisations including WildWise, Tracking the Kalahari, and Woodland Rebels. He is a director and facilitator at Circlewise, where he holds Way of Council circles, trainings, and retreats, and leads nature mentoring and rites of passage programmes. Sam also works with young men through ongoing nature-based mentoring groups at the land-based community where he lives on the edge of Dartmoor. Sam is deeply interested in the places where the wilds of nature, human culture and our inner journeys meet and has a passion for games, music and stories. He works with a relaxed approach and a playful energy and likes nothing more than a good adventure. Find the wild within you by grounding yourself in the world outside, become enmeshed and be-wild-ered as we adventure together in playful celebration of not simply the hyperlocal, but microlocal. Join us for the day, and make haptic maps, analogue connections and new networks. £70 per person 10am-4pm. You can book now through the link in our bio

What a wonderful workshop yesterday in the beautiful village of Ogwell! The talented Susannah Crook first took us foraging for colours from botanicals, before demonstrating how to make pigments from ochres (soils, stones and other minerals). Next it was our go, and then we unleashed our inspired imaginations onto paper. With @susannahcrookart @haegetesse

I’m delighted to have been invited by @asometimesproject to lead a walk, forage, make earth pigment paints and paint workshop in Ogmoor, near Newton Abbot on Sunday April 19th. We will be exploring the local area foraging for beautiful Devonshire Red Earth whilst learning about the local geology of the area and the ancient stories and legends surrounding the use of ochres in the south west. Local earths will be processed to make pigment and from these natural earthy watercolour will be made. There will be the opportunity to work with these paints to create experimental paintings inspired by the beautiful Devonshire landscape. Please visit @asometimesproject to find out more and to book. #earthpigments #earthcolours #naturalcolours #sustainableart #devonshire

What a Superb Sunday! The Spring sunshine warmed us up as we explored the worlds of sound and the more than human, exploring the wonders of the @dartingtontrust estate before heading into @soundartradio to go live on air, and to learn how radio supports and empowers artists. Our perambulations started with some deep listening in the Zen Garden, then we listened for the Dead before listening to a beetle. The Ancient Yew sent some deep vibrations down the line, and the magnolia petals trilled youthfully in comparison. Before heading for the radio studio we popped down to the River Dart to fling hydrophones into the gently meandering waters. Continuing our deep engagement in the natural world for artists and creatives, our next event is a day spent painting with pigments, on April 19th. Check out our profile/posts for more info. A big thankyou to Alice and Charlotte from Soundart Radio, to Berenika for her experimental and inclusive approach, and to Rae, Anna, Cathy and Becca for joining us on the journey.

Its not too late to sign up to our walkshop this weekend. Join artists Laura Denning and Berenika Weinreb-Osiecka 22nd March 10am-4pm Berenika is fast becoming an outstanding sound artist. Her deeply enquiring mind and appetite for new knowledge continues to lead her creative process into fascinating and unusual places. Berenika will take us on a micro-pilgrimage through sound around and beyond the Dartington Estate. She says: 'With the use of seismic microphones, hydrophones, and a scion, we will investigate a wide range of sounds found across the landscape. We will experience both the seen and the unseen, listening from human and non-human perspectives. During this workshop, we will embark on a sonic journey through space from a microbial point of view, allowing ourselves to be submerged in the experience — moving through the land of giants'. Laura Denning began her relationship with sound 15 years ago when she first volunteered with @soundartradio On this one day walkshop, Berenika and Laura will guide you through a wide range of sonic experiences, listening and sound-making as we explore the extraordinary environs of Dartington in Devon. The finale for this unique experience is a live drop-in at Soundart Radio, where participants will learn more about the art of sound, will experience a deeply funky, fully functioning broadcast studio, and will have their recordings broadcast live on air. Soundart Radio is an independent, non-commercial, licensed community radio station, reaching audiences locally, nationally and internationally. Listen live online, or tune in to 102.5 FM if you are in the Totnes area of Devon, UK. Soundart's approach to creating radio is simple – we believe that anyone who asks to get involved is an artist, and provide the space, resources, airwaves and inspiration for them to develop and broadcast their ideas. £60 per person. Email [email protected] to secure your place.

Wow! We woke this morning to 5 brilliant applications from students at @plymuni who are interested in short internships with A Sometimes Project, to help build a better (proper) website(!) and to help navigate the social media spheres. All of them are fantastic! But we can only select two...an almost impossible task. We look forward to introducing the selected interns in due course. It feels so good to have a helping hand...
