What an absolute joy it was to celebrate the incomparable Dr. Sandy Goldberg at a beautiful dinner hosted by the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, Dr. Robert Barish in recognition of her raising over $1M in support of UIC Health programs and initiatives. Dr. Sandy was truly verklempt at the incredible outpouring of love, respect, and appreciation in the room — a testament to the lives she’s touched and the legacy she continues to build every single day.
We were in wonderful company with key UIHealth leadership and staff, ASLF Executive Board members, including ASLF Co‑Founder (and Dr. Sandy’s partner in life and mission), Greg Hines, and other close friends as we celebrated this acknowledgment. UIHealth’s generosity and heartfelt recognition of Dr. Sandy’s extraordinary impact made the evening unforgettable. Her visionary leadership has opened doors, restored hope, and ensured access to lifesaving breast and general health resources for thousands across Chicago.

A special thank you to Daniel Fiorito from Bank of America (BOA), who leveraged his employer’s matching program and turned a $5,000 donation into $10,000, helping us grow our initial amount of $16,000 to an incredible $21,000. Your support helped push us to this remarkable total, resulting in doubling the event’s impact from 2023. We are deeply grateful.
And because community comes full circle, here’s a photo of Eshanthika and me after I won a stunning piece of artwork by Julie Cowan, titled “Bodice as Graphic,” in the raffle—an artwork I’m honored to donate to grace the walls of A Silver Lining Foundation. As Julie shares, “The work is a graphic representation of scars on my body incurred on my journey with cancer.”
Special thanks also go out to The Empty Bottle and its wonderful staff for providing such an amazing space for Eshanthika’s celebration, and to Glitter Guts for their support capturing photos throughout the evening. You added thoughtful, personal touches that brought Eshanthika’s spirit to the forefront and helped make the evening a huge success.
