It was an honour to be back teaching at Windsor Castle this week as part of the centenary celebrations for Queen Mary’s Dolls House. Two lovely groups of ladies enjoyed a day stitching a wildflower posy motif influenced by the embroidery on small scale sofas and chairs in the Saloon. We were all treated to a private view of the Doll’s House with a curator from the Royal Collection Trust.

I haven’t posted on here for a while for personal reasons. Sometimes you have to put everything aside to support those nearest and dearest to you. Today, for the first time in ages, I picked up a needle and stitched for the pure joy of it. As the Spring sunshine flooded my little room with light I realise that I am stitching the sun, shining out from the clouds. I ran into an ‘old friend’ whilst visiting the Style and Society: Dressing the Georgians exhibition at the Queens Gallery last week, Mrs Mary Delany. Having recently read Molly Peacock’s fascinating and uniquely personal biography The Paper Garden, she certainly felt very familiar to me. Beginning her life’s work of intricate paper cut flower collage at the age of 72, she is an inspiration to us all! Check out the ‘Flora Delano a’ at the British Museum for more examples of her work.
