An Evening About “the Other Shore”
This Saturday at TOKU Gallery, we will first screen the short film Farewell Taipei by young director Zheng Miaoxin, followed by a circle conversation with Zhushan, a young lecturer who studied law in Taiwan for five years.
He will share the everyday textures of Taiwan—found in classrooms, streets, and ordinary life.

Synopsis
Zhang Xiao, a mainland student in Taiwan, is graduating. On the eve of returning from Taipei to Shanghai, she breaks up with her boyfriend; that night, the two wander the city with friends until dawn, carrying secrets and unsaid feelings.

故事梗概：在台陆生张晓毕业了，即将从台北回上海，她和男友在此节点分手；离别前夜，他们保守秘密和朋友游荡至清晨。
Synopsis：Zhang Xiao, a China mainland student in Taiwan, has graduated and is about to return to Shanghai from Taipei, where she and her boyfriend parted ways at this node; the night before her parting, they kept their secret and loitered with their friends until the early morning.

导演简介：影像创作者，研究生毕业于上海电影学院电影导演专业及台湾世新大学电影创作组。曾入选台湾国际女性影展实验影像工作坊，上海西岸大剧院艺术家驻地计划，羊城晚报青年导演扶持山海计划十强，南光火花计划实验片单元，短片《今宵多珍重》获木兰国际电影节最佳艺术探索奖。
Director‘s Introduction：Zheng Miaoxin holds a master’s degree in Film Directing from Shanghai Film Academy and also studied in the Film Production program at Shih Hsin University in Taiwan. His work has been selected for the Experimental Image Workshop at the Taiwan International Women‘s Film Festival, the Artist Residency Program at Shanghai Xian Grand Theatre, the Top Ten of the Yangcheng Evening News Emerging Directors Support Program (Shanhai Project), and the Experimental Selection of the NanLite Spark Project. His short film Farewell Taipei won the Award for Excellence in Artistic Exploration at the Mulan International Film Festival.

Statement：This is a story based on real life, it is loose and casual, just like my life in Taipei; it is about loss and separation, cherishing and longing; the film is dedicated to Taiwan and my friends, and the many, many nights we spent together in Taipei.
✨ On the Closing Night of the 2025 Mulan International Film Festival, August 17, the stage was lit with revelation: the Jury of the Fountainhead Programme, joined by our Artistic Director SHEN Wei, unveiled the two winning works of this year’s competition.

The three awards go directly to the winning directors.
Set up in 2022, the Audience Awards are voted by the attendees at the screenings of the Fountainhead Programme. The Award for Excellence in Artistic Exploration, replacing the Jury Prize for Best Short Film (set up in 2023) this year, recognizes boldness of vision and risk-taking in form.
The Jury of this year is comprised of Nicole CHI AMÉN (Costa Rican-born Chinese director, winner of our 2024 Best New Director award), Alvin LUONG (internationally-exhibited visual artist), and Annie SONG (award-winning film producer).
