They were very uncomfortable with showing their face in videos. So shy so self conscious wow. How things have changed. 🎸 Also... danggggg, those acoustics though, amirite? And of course the scratchy, poor video quality from filming this using a webcam. πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘΅πŸ“ΊπŸ“Ή 🎡Song: Video Games by Lana Del Rey

Inconvenience Me - Ash Labrys This is one of the first songs I ever wrote. Inspired by getting to know my neighbours in an apartment building, building community, and learning to love the "inconveniences" of living so close to other people in a building with thin walls and floors. Different smells in the elevator and hallways every day was a reminder of how many different lives were being lived right next my own. Two years ago, my friend's cat (Trout) ran away while I was petsitting. I was outside calling for Trout and shaking treat bags and overall being a mess of emotions. A stranger from my building was walking by and asked how she could help. This stranger became more than just a stranger that day. Amy printed posters and was such amazing moral support when I truly needed it. Trout was found in someone's backyard 6 weeks later, but Amy and I remained in contact. She would later ask me to feed her cat while she was away for a couple of days and she did the same for me when I was away for a weekend later that year. She became a friend. Someone who I could confide in when it came to our landlord and just life in general. This was not the only time that I met some of the beautiful people living close to me. There was a man who helped me put up Missing Cat posters, a girl in the laundry room who gave me her phone number so we could exchange cat toys, another laundry room friend who I added on FB so that we could hang out sometime, and another person who said she loved crocheted dishcloths so I made her some and dropped them off at her door. I've moved into a house now so while I can't meet people in the laundry room anymore, I still look forward to smiling at and chatting with people outside. Community is so important and these interactions are just a small glimpse of how lovely life can be when we don't discount strangers' impact on our lives. Having community keeps us safe. It's human. It may feel uncomfortable at first in this society that teaches us to fend for ourselves, but it feels damn good when you let it into your life.

And if you know me, I'll always stop and take photos of things that make my heart ache & sing, my love deepen, and my conscience tingle. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ During my trip to Ottawa, we went down to the parliament buildings to watch the pride parade and stumbled upon the very moment when the pride parade was brought to a halt by Palestine/Pride activists. It was a privilege and an honour to become a part of the protest in that moment in our "capital city" of "Canada" during a parade that should indeed still signify a protest in itself (despite what Ottawa's mayor and Capital Pride believe). πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈ Free Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Haiti, and so many more. Trans kids deserve to grow up. Immigrants are sacred. Capitalism is putrid. Landlords are scum. ACAB.

A very belated first post of the trip to Ottawa in August. I got to experience the city in the summer this time around (thank GAWD) and also got to catch some Pride events. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

βœŠπŸŒ…πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Έ It's not the waking, it's the rising. Nina Cried Power. I never thought in a million years that I would ever get to see @hozier perform. And here I was on Sunday, watching him and so many talented artists perform live. I knew he was a stand-up guy, but I don't follow his live performances so this was an absolute pleasure/privilege to witness. What a beautiful moment to experience. I am still in complete bliss. Free Palestine. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡ΈβœŠ

So many lovely days this summer. I've written 4 songs since the beginning of the year, shared my music on stage, spent time with some beautiful people, biked to Lawrencetown, ate good food, and learned to appreciate this little city even more than the year before.
