Often times technique gets lost in a skill and people accept that the words are interchangeable.
Technique to me is the execution of a skill or movement or the way you carry yourself through artistic expression.
Technique is not always doing 16 fouetté pirouettes into a triple pirouette and finishing with a tombé coupé jeté. That is a SKILL, the technique is how you execute it and the foundation which you build upon.
Technique is found in all facets of dance in a multitude of different variations. Technical elements do not solely mean there is technique in a routine.
Ask these OMDC kids any day of the week to show a skill or a “trick” and they will whip it out no problem.
Do you see it in every one of our competitive routines? Absolutely not.
Do you see technique in every one of our competitive routines? Absolutely.
It’s not the same.
We teach technique, we explore technique, we value technique. Just because someone can’t master or may struggle with a skill doesn’t always mean they are lacking in technique.
So here you have it.
Technique ✅
Artistry ✅
Individuality ✅
Artistic Expression ✅
JOY ✅
That’s the OMDC way. It’s worked for 12 years and we certainly won’t be stopping anytime soon.
✌🏼💕✨
Happy 3rd Birthday Knight! Mommy, Momma, and little brother Darcy miss you so much. Our hearts search for you every day, in every room, every second. 💙🧸
Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife. ✨
I am forever thankful that the universe allowed us to exist in the same lifetime. We were always meant to find each other.
I love you endlessly, with my whole entire heart Shug. 🦈💞🐧
Last one best one. ✨
It was our last elite only competition with this team who has been together since elite crew started at OMDC.
So many feelings. So many emotions. But more than any of that, so many memories made.
We brought 1 group and 1 duet. We finished the group on Tuesday and the duet the Thursday before that. They were absolutely perfect in every single way.
Thank you kiddos and parents for trusting us and allowing us to explore creatively. “Let’s do a group to compete this weekend” would scare most but these OMDC kids thrive.
Yeah we take it seriously. But our seriously is WAY different than most. Joy always comes first.
