Series 001 investigates a simple question: if plants make up over 80% of the world’s biomass, why are our spaces designed almost entirely without them?
Asher Young, inspired by conversations with plant neurologist Stefano Mancuso, imagined an apartment entirely occupied by plants. Series 001 is a set of editions pulled from that world.
FLOCK
The sculptures illuminate as people pass beneath by them, in patterns simulating flocking patterns with light.
Inspired by boat-tailed grackles—social, playful, and communal birds—reflecting the life of the surrounding community.

FLOCK
40 birds. 5 years. 1 Mass Audubon bird specialist. 6 designers + engineers.
Forty birds ripple in waves of light, inspired by the boat-tailed grackle.

In 2024, we:
- Transformed the interior beaux-arts court of a museum into an animated neon discotheque
- Enclosed a sunrise in an office building at 5:30am every day
- Planted the beginnings of a flock in a large red oak
- Recreated a photograph with fabric, metal, and light
- Rewound time, stimulated growth, trapped energy, tamed particles, shaped water, and redirected light
- Launched a series of marble icons into a nightclub
- Physicalized memories using light, fans, water particulates, and personal archives
- Dispatched 73 lemons across the country
Here’s to 2025.
