Thanks to everyone who joined our event at The Conduit, @theconduitlondon , last night, where we explored forest protection led by Indigenous People and local communities.
Here’s another shining example: Instituto Zág, @institutozag , from southern Brazil. They are a finalist in The 2026 Ashden Award for Tropical Forest Protection 🌳
It supports local people in the Laklãnõ-Xokleng territory to protect and restore their land. This includes replanting the threatened Araucária tree, and tackling logging and wildfires. Instituto Zág’s work is powered by cultural and ancestral knowledge – so it makes sure to educate and engage the community at every step.

Meet Isona Shibata and Anthony Walter Okello leading Ashden's Thransformaing Humanitarian Energy Access programme. Our programme gives refugee-led clean energy initiatives unrestricted development grants, technical assistance and strategic communications support, enabling their work to become financially sustainable solutions, which also boost local economic development.
