I am sharing this post as inspiration to everyone out there who has been or is being bullied or doubted, laughed at or pushed down.
Bad Omens is a band I fought for from the day I signed them and was met with constant ridicule, doubt and isolation from so many of my peers as well as many other bands. From industry group chats making fun of them and Sumerian for believing so deeply in their potential, to being dropped by their agency reps because they stood up for themselves and we stood by them, to countless other scenarios. “dude- they’ll never recover from this.”
I started Sumerian Records to champion young unknown artists that I believed in, using my experience as a struggling artist in the industry trying to help bring in a new era of music. 2006 everybody said the record business was dead and I was “beyond foolish” to spend the rest of my 20s building a label in the “current climate.” I figured it all out as I went. I had no true mentor who had already done what I hoped to do in the biz and knew how much I had learned the hard way, so if I could help artists younger than me do better - I was going to do it.
I am so proud and so honored by the 10+ years of hard work, resilience and brilliant artistry I have seen Bad Omens do. They have paid their dues and deserve every bit of the success they have created for themselves. These guys are all maestros and Noah is a true auteur in how he crafts all that is the audio & visual experience of this band.
He does not compromise his art and vision, whether it’s the lack of a logo at the bottom of a flyer or it’s the finishing touches on one of the biggest albums of the decade in rock and alternative.
If no one’s hating, then you’re not making an impact. If you’re still reading this - keep going. Nothing worth fighting for is ever easy. You can stop when you’re dead.

I made a promise to myself and to my toddler son that while I’m here with resources and abilities, I will fight against the machine. It’s much easier to just make money, keep your mouth shut and live a comfortable life, but how would I ever look him in the eyes once he’s a man and asks “dad when all that was going on, what did you do to fight it?”
We lost one of the greatest to ever do it today. Ever since I heard Jimmy as a small child, he enchanted me. The way he could capture mood with lyric and melody was timeless. He was an artist that for me both as a little kid and a grown man, I loved without fatigue. That takes a very special voice and very special songs to do. I will never grow tired of playing you, Mr. Cliff. Thank you for your magic and humanity. 🎙️ 🇯🇲
So grateful I got to see him with my brother perform main stage Coachella w/ Tim Armstrong of Rancid, another all time favorite artist growing up.

Saw this film at TIFF and it is a truly fantastic, authentic coming of age story filled with so many memorable scenes. We are thrilled at Sumerian to help get this movie out to audiences in theaters all over the US next year. Bravo to Barbie, Chandler and the entire cast & crew.
