We are thrilled to announce that our organization, April Smiles Humanitarian Foundation, has secured a grant from the European Union Youth Empowerment Fund through the Global Youth Mobilization to deliver a water project “Koso Unity Water Project” in a community of seven villages in Oyo town, Oyo state. The communities include: Elegbo, Oya Tutu, Efunlete, Koso, Baale Agba, Odogun, and Igbo Olowo .
The Youth Empowerment Fund is a partnership between the European Union and a coalition of leading youth organisations known as the “Big Six.” These include the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the World YMCA, the World YWCA, the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Together, they provide financial and institutional backing for youth-led community interventions.
With over 9000 youth applications and almost 4000 advanced youth panel review, April Smiles Humanitarian Foundation is one of the 575 global awardees for the cycle 2 of the Youth Empowerment Fund.
The application for this grant followed direct engagement with residents of Koso, the community Centre, and neighbouring villages in the community. During a Children’s Day celebration organized by the Foundation and Mr LilGaga (Namaste
@mrlilgaga ) last year, community leaders raised a shared concern about the lack of access to electricity and safe drinking water. They explained that all seven communities depended on a single well, which could not meet basic daily needs. They also appealed for assistance in securing a more reliable water source.
The organization will install a generator-powered borehole that will provide steady and safe water supply to the community. The project is designed to ease pressure on existing sources and improve living conditions across the seven locations.
April Smiles Humanitarian Foundation is grateful to the European Union Youth empowerment fund and the global youth mobilization. This project will positively impact the lives of thousands of people.
