Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre returns to the ASFA campus for its second collaboration, ASFA Gathering. You may remember Yaa Samar from the site-specific performance with The Walk with Amal. This process will draw on original repertory - featuring movement, text, song, dance, puppetry, and play - as well as the creation of original narratives, improvisational scores, task-based exercises and games to be devised with the participants. The residency will culminate in a performance of a unique gathering showcasing the collective efforts and individual stories of the group on Friday, August 22 at 5:00pm and Saturday, August 23 at 12:00pm at the Alabama School of Fine Arts in the Center Dance Studio. On Friday, please enter through the ASFA School lobby. On Saturday, please enter through the ASFA Cafeteria doors. Signage will be posted. These events are FREE and open to the public.

Next up is Ellie Irvine (5yr senior) with her piece “bittersweet🎀” Her work dives into how the people and experiences from our childhood shape who we become as adults. It explores how we carry those younger versions of ourselves throughout life and how individual memories affect the way we see the world, make decisions, and build relationships. bittersweet is a love letter to girlhood and a reminder to honor our younger selves for guiding us, even when we didn’t realize it. 💗 👯Performers Nayeli Hogue, Haley Moore, Ava Noble. Lilah Helmer, Zoie Jordan Understudy: Jordyn Donner Collaborators: Bailey Keith (Visual Art)

A few weeks ago, we had our Senior Choreography performances (May 1–3), and now the pictures are finally in! So excited to start sharing each piece created by our 10 amazing seniors now officially alumni 🥹❤️🎓 First up is Marie Bennett (four year senior)💜with her piece “things we leave behind.” Her piece reflects on her time at ASFA, both the highs and lows. She wanted to express the emotions she experienced over the past four years and the friendships she formed along the way. It’s a reminder that while everyone’s journey is different, even in the loneliest moments, there are always people you can lean on. Huge thank you to our photographer @michaeljmoorephoto for capturing these beautiful moments! 📸✨ Performers 👯‍♀️: Piper Bonner, Mecheseney Martin, August Intoccia, Olivia Osborne, Autumn Smith Understudy: Aidan Eubanks Collaborators: Jonathon Gutierrez & Jacob Moryoussef (Music), and Lillian Wilson (Creative Writing)

Our 10 dance seniors will be taking to the stage just once more. This final piece is both powerful and heartfelt. Choreographed by alum Rachel Lockhart in collaboration with the dancers, they have truly made something spectacular that you will not want to miss. Don’t miss it this Saturday at 7 and Sunday at 2:30 at the @djdtheater .
