A long journey it has been. Sacred Songs – eight lieder for soprano and piano, set to words by Scottish national poet Kenneth Steven – was finally recorded this weekend at the Yehudi Menuhin School in Great Bookham, south of London, where the violin master himself is buried.
"He who makes music in this life will make music in the next."
The full album, including Symphony of Saints (recorded last year in Oxford with the Orchestra of the Swan), will be released on Resonusclassics later this year.
Sound engineer: Adam Binks
Soprano: Joanne Lunn

What a magical time recording Robin Holloway’s magnificent Violin Concerto with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Alexander Walker. Still buzzing after two days of intense recording. So grateful to our producer Adam Binks for having skilfully guiding us through this complex maze of human creation. Can’t wait to hear the final product. Stay tuned!
Many thanks to the marvellous Portsmouth Cathedral Choir and its wonderful director, David J C Stevenson-Price, for performing my setting of Lullay, my liking (published by OUP) earlier this week in the The Mary Rose Museum in #Portsmouth. They’re also going to be singing it in Portsmouth Cathedral in carol services nearer Christmas. For anyone interested, it’s recorded on Resonus Classics with Wells Cathedral Choir (Wells Cathedral Choir): /products/a-wells-christmas?_pos=9&_sid=ebf85c8bb&_ss=r
