my babygirl is getting accepted into all the HBCUs and art schools her heart desires. so proud of her 😢. as a creative, art lover, and Black queer father that always encouraged my children to be art-driven, loving and free. I couldn’t be happier about the future she is building for herself. Parenthood will draaaag ya ass…and no not that kind. Forever inspired by she 🦋 ✍🏾 🎨 🌊 🏄🏾‍♀️🌊 🗡️ ✊🏾🦄

write now, right now, write now, right now Octavia told us. Malcolm told us. Baldwin told us. June Jordan told us. They all told us. They knew. What are we telling? What do we know. Now? What do we now know? For sure. Fasho Fasho. ~asadullah saed

Super proud of my daughter, Faatimah Ayokaa Sky for her amazing, evolving talent as a visual artist. Here is her award-winning self portrait that she created in her art class. Support and resource black women and black girls in EVERYTHING they wish to accomplish!!!!!!

the first few days of the year. may grief and rage and mutual aid and love and care and healthy food and love and care and meditation and stillness and love and care and remembering all who were good to you and who honor your personhood. may all that power be felt by the people. may our minds and bodies be strengthened. ashé

an extraordinary few days in a black man’s life. details below: 1) experimenting with my freedoms. FREE PALESTINE!!!!!!! 🇵🇸 2) unrelated to picture 1. invited to fellowship. 3) i feel you tree. 4) a Libra’s hotel room. 5) block’n. you. 6) colleague couture. 7) a place that has over 3,000 of our sons, fathers, loved ones who are Black, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, South Asian, Indigenous, disabled, elders, journalists, actors, writers, creatives, musicians, laborers, public media viewers, mentors, mentees, favorite filmmakers, brothers and nonbinary siblings behind the wall under the state’s lock and key. HOWEVER…their art, brilliance, creativity and love don’t know no gates. That’s what we must understand. 8) witnessed a beautiful brother sitting so peacefully in MacArthur Park 9) a black man (whose back is to the camera) is circled in a screenshot of a new york times photo. as he is spiritually preparing to step inside of a prison. to just visit for a day or two. the Black man looks like me (it is me). 10) til we free 11) this spoke to me, it said: “I ain’t going nowhere, no how.” 12) elegance! 13) if I send you this, that means that shyt was mad corny B. #dadjokes 14) when Care Bears box 💪🏾💗🥊 15) San Quentin Film Festival. Rahsaan Thomas, Cori Thomas, as well as their inside team and filmmakers who are serving time in San Quentin changed lives by holding the first film festival on record inside a state prison. the event was historic. i am still processing. and forever touched. I got to listen and talk and laugh and go to Jumaah and pray and share… 16) Nip, rest in complete freedom. 17) major cities across america still refuse to repurpose vacant space to the unhoused. this was taken from my “no vista, no view” yet scenic hotel room in downtown Oakland. 18) we all got temporary name tags. both the words “prison” and “state” found their way on them. 19) when the people in your village invite you to engage with their art. you go. they’re offering you their peace and blessings. *if you made it this far. why did you have to scroll by my shyt so damn fast OR OR thank you 🥰 for caring about a brother’s last few days. i love you for dat 😉*
