Asabi Goodman is a powerhouse of talent, resilience and heart. Born in Akron, Ohio and raised across Oklahoma and California, Asabi discovered her love for performing at just eight years old. Though her passion for the arts was clear, she first pursued a successful career in chemical engineering, earning her degree from the University of Southern California (USC), where she also co-founded USC’s first all-female a cappella group, The Sirens.
In 2008, Asabi made a bold move to Brisbane, Australia and a bold career change. Leaving behind engineering, she stepped into the world of acting and singing full-time, earning an Advanced Diploma in Stage and Screen Acting from the Australian Performing Arts Conservatory.
Since then, she’s become a shining star in Australian musical theatre. She wowed audiences as Motormouth Maybelle in the national tour of Hairspray, later joining the U.S. Broadway tour for its final leg. In 2024, she stunned again as Matron “Mama” Morton in the Australian tour of Chicago, praised for her charisma and powerful stage presence.
Beyond the spotlight, Asabi is also a trained intimacy coordinator, working with leading institutions and productions to ensure safe, respectful environments for performers. In 2025, she mentored emerging talent through Brisbane City Council’s Lord Mayor’s Seniors Cabaret program.
With nearly 40 years of experience in stage and vocal performance, Asabi continues to uplift, teach, and entertain with authenticity and joy. Her journey from engineer to acclaimed performer is a reminder that it’s never too late to follow your passion.
We celebrate Asabi not only for her voice and talent but for her courage, leadership and generosity. She embodies what it means to be a true artist and community leader and we are proud to highlight her story.

How many years ago was this?? FIVE!!! Wow! Time flies! Once On This Island was a magnificent production. I’m so glad to have been a part of it. ☺️
Also, I didn’t choose this music. But I’m not mad at it. 😅
Look, ma!! I got an EMMY!! Ok, it’s not MY EMMY, but I’ll probably make the same face when I win one. It is heavy though! Anyway, can’t wait to share this next project when the time comes. ☺️
