Between Worlds
He who sat high in the arms of a birch tree, listening to the wind whispering through the silver leaves of a world below. He stepped down stumbling through the trees like a shadow - the forest breathed around him.
He looked skyward-not at the sun, but at the feeling it stirred in him. For the first time, he saw the vastness of this new world. Alone, but not unwelcome, he walked toward the light between the trees. He curled into the earth, letting it cradle him. Was it hours? Days? The trees watched in their silent way. He tilted his head to the sun. The forest accepted him.
He wandered deeper, feeling himself change. He felt the pull towards the trees, their bark-coarse and cool. It pulsed faintly under his palm, cradling him like an old friend. He looked back once. Then vanished back into the branches.
