𝘕𝘦𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴 is designed for audiences interested in immersive theatre, speculative fiction, and art–technology experiences, while remaining accessible to first-time immersive participants. The work particularly appeals to novelty-driven younger audiences interested in shared, physical experiences.
The small-group structure encourages conversation and negotiation throughout the experience, making it well suited to audiences who enjoy collaborative problem-solving and collective decision-making. While the tone is approachable and engaging, the narrative engages themes of AI, consent, productivity, and the optimisation of sleep and cognition, allowing participants to encounter these ideas through play.

𝘕𝘦𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴 uses the familiar language of clinical and corporate systems to examine how sound, data, and procedural interfaces already structure attention, behaviour, and consent in everyday life. Interfaces guide behaviour, restrict options, and frame compliance as care — mirroring our increasing participation in our own monitoring and optimisation.
The work is also informed by real-world research on sleep and cognition, such as MIT Media Lab’s Dormio, which explores how sound and external stimuli can influence dream states and transitional phases of sleep.
The structure of 𝘕𝘦𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴 is shaped by two opposing systems. One operates through institutional protocols, research objectives, and cohesive official narratives that frame assimilation as necessary for collective progress i.e. “order” The other introduces disruption through fragmented voices, emotional testimony, and contradictory materials that complicate or undermine that authority i.e. “chaos”. The environment sits between a research lab and a gallery, with light and sound operating as dramaturgical signals.
—
The show’s interactivity relies on a combination of networked computer terminals, NFC-enabled artefacts, projected text, thermal-printed outputs, QR-codes, and QLab-controlled sound and lighting systems. These elements are carefully programmed to support narrative progression and collective decision-making, reinforcing the work’s interest in how technological infrastructures mediate trust, compliance, and agency.

𝙉𝙚𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙀𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙨: 𝙀𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙇𝙖𝙗 is a 50-minute immersive theatre experience, held at The Arts House from 9 January to 7 February 2026.
It functions as a narrative prequel to the speculative world of Victor Fernando R. Ocampo’s 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘴, a play-by-email work presented at the Singapore Writers Festival in 2020. Participants are invited to inhabit the ethical beginnings of a dangerous system: foregrounding sleep, consent, and collective decision-making as the hidden infrastructure of technological power.
The format blends interactive theatre with escape room mechanics, using tasks and sound to move participants through the story. Progress through the experience is structured to require discussion, negotiation, and attempted consensus under time pressure, emphasising cooperation and shared decision-making. 𝙉𝙚𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙀𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙨 asks participants to sit with the tensions and trade-offs of possible futures, framing technological decision-making as a collective, social act.
While 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘴 serves as the narrative world, the themes of this immersive experience are grounded in two non-fictional works: Matthew Walker’s 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘞𝘦 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 and Jonathan Crary’s 24/7: 𝘓𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱.

[3]: Synopsis of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘦𝘥 𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘴
[4]: Quote from Matthew Walker's 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘞𝘦 𝘚𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱 on how we spend a third of our lives asleep

Since when did editing short-form videos become a prerequisite for freelance artists?
You make your art, but you also reluctantly accept that you need to have an “online presence” to “put yourself out there”.
Slowly, fatigue sets in. Editing brings you no joy. You rather spend more time creating art than dabble in something you have no interest in.
We want to match you with a short-form video editor + cover the cost for it so you could take this chance to rest, or try a video reference you’ve always wanted to but have no expertise over!
The application is simple; tell us how much rest time you get in return when someone does the editing for you.
Expression of Interest closes on 13th April (Mon) 12:00pm. Link in bio.
Participants will be notified by 17th April (Fri) if their application is successful or not.
We would love to give you an opportunity to take a break, that’s all!:)
