Harford County’s Emmerton Elementary School students learned about the Underground Railroad this year through the magic of storytelling and puppetry with A4L artist and 2026 Baker Artist Awards finalist Schroeder Cherry. They followed the journey of a young boy and sat enthralled as the character travelled north to escape slavery. The route was dangerous, and he met many people along the way–not all of them good. The students, invested in the young boy’s success, were riveted. ⁣ ⁣ Visit our website to bring Schroeder Cherry’s Underground Railroad: Not A Subway to your school this spring. @hcps_schools @schroeder.cherry #bakerartistawards #artsineducation

Happy Earth Day! Today, Arts for Learning celebrates how creativity can deepen our connection to the environment and to each other. In the program Creating a Class Community Garden: An Exploration in Painting & Collaborative Art, students work with artist Mikela Thrasher to turn a simple idea (a community garden) into a shared work of art. Each painted flower represents an individual, coming together to form something bigger— just like a real garden. When students create and collaborate, they plant seeds for a more thoughtful, connected future. 🌱 You can find this Earth Day-aligned residency and more like it on our website! Link in bio
