GREduAction Week 372 – Sunday, 10 May 2026 (belated post) Planted 10 periwinkle flowers for the bees and butterflies. Three members from Team MUVP took on the role of gardeners for the day: weeding, planting, and mulching to upkeep the floer aisle and care for the space. Also observed a new young rambutan sapling, which we did not plant, alongside a China Doll plant (Radermachera sinica) with its glossy bright green, feathery foliage. Another mesh wire was installed for 3 panels. Just 2 more panels to go. Mission: cinder blocks in the coming week! Thank you Team MUVP for the 6th session.

GREduAction Week 407 – Saturday, 09 May 2026 What was once a junk slope prone to littering along the Pollinator Trail has now been transformed into a 3-tier garden bed, made possible with the support of SWIFT KL. #sdg9 Volunteers from SWIFT KL, together with Mya and her team from the University of Cyberjaya (UoC), successfully planted 105 new flower saplings. #sdg15 Adding to the waste-not, two UoC students collected four wheelbarrows of dried leaves, enough to mulch all three garden tiers after planting. The UoC boys also did an excellent job trimming fallen tree branches and removing them from the river as part of the ongoing river upkeep. Meanwhile, the trash team collected a total of 4.425kg of waste from the site. With the addition of pollinator-friendly flowers such as Heliconia and Hibiscus, we hope to attract and observe more sunbirds along the trail in the coming months. As part of GREduAction’s learning outcome, Syuen concluded the session with a 30-minute sharing on Youth Action for the SDGs. Among the many topics discussed, one question lingered in the minds of the students: #sdg4 Why are we willing to fight for petrol, but not for the protection of our rivers, the very source of our water? Where did we go wrong? Thank you, Team UoC, for the Munchy’s assorted biscuits. Your thoughtfulness and kind gesture are truly appreciated, especially coming from the youth.

GREduAction Week 407 - Saturday, 09 May 2026 Bamboo: The Silent Guardian of Biodiversity. Did you know that bamboo absorbs up to 35% more carbon dioxide than an equivalent stand of trees? As we head toward the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, we are shining a spotlight on this incredible grass. Bamboo is a powerful nature-based solution that restores degraded soil, protects wildlife habitats, and reduces logging pressure on our native forests. Sustainability starts right here in our local community. We want to give a massive shoutout and thank you to Mandy (Mrs. Earth Malaysia) and Ravi! 🙌 SO YOU THINK BEING AN EARTH QUEEN 👸 IS ALL GLAMOUR?? Think again! Their fantastic teamwork during our weekly river park upkeep kept our bamboo nicely trimmed and managed. By looking after the park, they are helping our local ecosystem thrive. Thank you both for your hard work! #biodiversityday #riverparkcleanup #ecowarriors #teamwork #sdg15

We just hosted How We Built It: Community in the Arts at the British Council Malaysia, bringing together a room of people shaping how culture is built, shared, and sustained across the city. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our speakers, @josephrahel of @ilhamgallerykl , Ahmad Hakym Bin Ahmad Hilmy (@kymioflario ) of @klsketchnation , @nazura_rahime of @jalannegarakita , and Kennedy Michael (@quadrafoliumrepens ) of The Alliance of River Three (@artrivercpr ), who spoke openly about what it actually takes to build and sustain communities over time. What came through across the evening was that this work rarely starts with a grand plan. It often begins with something small, curiosity, a need, a group of people choosing to show up. From there, it grows through consistency, trust, and care. Through listening to how people use space, building relationships with local partners, institutions, and communities, and finding ways to sustain something long after the initial energy has passed. We heard about placemaking as a long-term commitment, not a one-off intervention. About the time it takes to move from informal activity to recognised and supported infrastructure. About the role of art in reconnecting people to the city, to public space, and to each other. We also heard that sustainability is not just about funding or policy. It’s about culture, participation, and a shared sense of ownership, people choosing to care, contribute, and stay involved. Thank you to the British Council Malaysia team, especially Florence Lambert (Head of Arts and Creative Industries at @my_british ), Khadijah Aisha Turner, and Erica Choong, for their support in organising this event. Catering was by @pichaeats with @knead.kl , both excellent and highly recommended. Moderated by @vivikallinikou , @artrabbit . If you’re part of a local organisation, we would love to hear from you. We are looking for collaborations to build stronger connections across our art hubs. 📍 British Council Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur 📷 How We Built It: Community in the Arts, ArtRabbit Event, May 2026, Kuala Lumpur. GREduAction week 407 - Sat, 9 May 2026 Did you know 23 May is World Turtle Day (23 May)? ...and to our surprised, we observed a large female freshwater turtle by the Pollinator Trail in the afternoon, believed to be exploring potential nesting spots within the restored urban green space. An empty test hole was found in the soft soil, a natural behaviour often seen before turtles select a suitable site to lay eggs. While the observed hole appeared empty without visible eggs, these sightings remain important indicators of habitat connectivity, ecosystem health, and the resilience of wildlife adapting within urban environments. Our biodiversity observation and ecological data collection form part of our ongoing community conservation efforts, documenting species presence, habitat use, and ecological interactions within restored landscapes. Every observation contributes towards strengthening long-term environmental stewardship and supports broader global biodiversity and ecosystem restoration efforts. ART!’s biodiversity observation initiative also supports global frameworks including the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (CBD), SDG14 & SDG15, the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030), and science-based biodiversity approaches championed by IUCN, IPBES, TNFD, SBTN, Biodiversa+ and Global Biodiversity Score (GBS). Small urban green spaces can still become meaningful refuges for wildlife when communities choose to conserve, protect, rehabilitate, monitor, and coexist with nature. Every biodiversity observation matters. #WorldTurtleDay #biodiversityobservation #FreshwaterTurtles #UrbanBiodiversity #PollinatorTrail #NatureConservation #EcosystemRestoration #UNDecadeOnRestoration #GlobalBiodiversityFramework #SDG14 #SDG15 #CommunityConservation #CitizenScience #NaturePositive #NatureInTheCity

GREduAction Week 371 – Sunday, 03 May 2026 @ MVR3 SDG Park (belated post). A small intervention can create a meaningful impact. Leyan and Team from MUVP installed mesh wire (2 panels) along the other side of the pedestrian bridge walkway. Though simple and low-cost, this practical solution serves multiple purposes, preventing trash from being thrown into the area below, safeguarding the safety of volunteers working underneath the bridge, and reducing litter pollution entering the surrounding ecosystem. This reflects the spirit of SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, where thoughtful, accessible and community-driven infrastructure improvements can strengthen environmental stewardship and public safety. Innovation does not need to be expensive; it simply needs to solve real community challenges effectively. The day continued with composting food waste brought by Aida, turning organic waste into a resource instead of sending it to landfill. While Team MUVP was putting up the mesh wire (while Uncle Gab doing the trimming) , Syuen was interviewed by Ratu, a Bachelor of Psychology student from University of Cyberjaya. Ratu was referred by Imran, who previously volunteered with us. The interview explored workplace motivation among individuals working in NGOs, including reflections on: • what drives people to continue serving in the NGO sector • the role of teamwork and leadership in sustaining motivation • challenges faced in community work • balancing passion, purpose and financial realities • opportunities for growth and learning within the sector Thank you Ratu for the interview and Imran for referring. Community work is not built by one person alone, it is sustained by collaboration, shared purpose and many small actions consistently carried out over time. More in the coming Sundays by Team MUVP. #SDG4QualityEducation #SDG9IndustryInnovationandInfrastructure #SDG17partnershipforthegoals

Yesterday we hosted our first art tour through downtown Kuala Lumpur, bringing together a small group to move through the city and experience it collectively. We began the day by the river with Kennedy Michael (@quadrafoliumrepens ) and the River Three project (@artrivercpr ). His work brings together environmental care, culture and community in a way that feels both grounded and long term. It was a powerful way to start the day and to understand the city through a different lens. From there, we visited @jalannegarakita with @nazura_rahime . What was once a neglected alley has become a place for gathering, conversation and creativity. We were welcomed with great generosity and care, and it set the tone for the rest of the day. The tour then moved through the historic centre of Kuala Lumpur. We started at @thezhongshanbuilding , continued past @elseretreats Kuala Lumpur, and made our way through the streets, taking in both formal spaces and quieter moments in between. At @plusnbyurmu , we spent time with Strategies of Dissent, an exhibition tracing protest art in Malaysia from the 1990s to today. The works offered a strong sense of how artists have responded to social and political realities over time, and it was a highlight for many of us. By the end of the day, the heat had definitely caught up with us, and just as we wrapped up, the skies opened with a full tropical downpour. It felt like a fitting close to a day that was intense, energising and shared. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to all the spaces and people who welcomed us so generously. This tour is part of @artrabbit Southeast Asia Community Month, marking one year of building connections across Kuala Lumpur. We are here to keep learning, to keep connecting, and to continue shaping how people experience art in the city.

GREduAction week 406 - Sat 02 May 2026 As we move closer to World Bee Day…maybe the question isn’t “how do we save the bees?” Maybe it’s: how do we raise a generation that understands why it matters? World Bee Day 2026 is observed on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, aiming to raise awareness of the essential role bees and other pollinators play in ecosystems and food security. Welcomed Aaron Chai and team from Monash University’s Bloom Bloom Blush Project, just in time to support the theme "Bee Together for People and the Planet" through action. Mission of the day: 01 Trash Captains, collected 1.305kg of waste 02 Seedball team prepared pollinator-friendly seed balls 03 Teams weeded, cleared land, and built the foundation for new growth 04 Dried leaves collected for mulching (nothing wasted) - using the new 2 wheel barrow, contributed by Sharon Ee) 05 Everyone came together to upkeep the piazza area ..also SDG Youth Leadership today takeaway: 01 Learning by doing 02 Leading without titles 03 Taking responsibility for the sustenance you need from nature And this is how change grows, together. GRATITUDE: A big thank you to Aaron Chai and team for showing up and for the generous contribution of flower seeds. Thank you Sharon Ee for reaching out and supporting us with the wheelbarrows, which has been very useful in our work. And thank you Michelle, for your steady support and assistance throughout the day, follow by chicken rice lunch diplomacy talkshop 🙂 We appreciate the moment when people choose to care
