Artist Spotlight: BustArt
Twenty-five years in the making. Bustart transformed from graffiti traditionalist to GraffitiPop innovator—merging street art, comics, and pop culture into a visual language that’s distinctly his. Born in Basel, Switzerland in 1983, he grew up immersed in the city’s rich graffiti culture and early exposure to art through his father. What started in 1999 with classical lettering evolved through years of experimentation, culminating in 2011 when he defined his signature style: iconic cartoon characters like Felix the Cat, Mickey Mouse, Garfield, and the Smurfs fused with graffiti letterforms and Pop Art elements borrowed from Lichtenstein. A move to Amsterdam that same year catalyzed his full commitment, resulting in over 200 works across Dutch streets and recognition by Time Out Amsterdam as one of 50 personalities defining the city. From massive murals in New York, Berlin, Miami, Dubai, Cairo, and Mumbai to canvases, art toys, and collaborations on longboards and buses, his work spans continents and formats. Whether painting a 40-meter wall at Berlin Tegel Airport or creating “Education is Not a Crime” in Harlem, Bustart proves that evolution is the art.
