Flour. Sugar. Butter. And everything America forgot to share.
Makin' Cake is a solo performance written and performed by Dasha Kelly — poet laureate, author, and creative change agent — that uses the history of baking as a lens to explore race, class, and equity in America.
From scarce ingredients to abundance that wasn't shared equally, Kelly reveals how something as everyday as cake carries centuries of story. Come hungry for something real.

Synthfest Madison is a one day event celebrating electric audio. From circuit to the studio and finally the stage, participants will gain an all-encompassing experience of electronic music. Workshops include: building your own simple synth from scratch with Tim Kaiser (first 20 registered participants will get a synth to take home!), A deep look into the hybrid compositional performance approach of Ableton certified trainer, Lorna Dune, and finally how the MAX software can be utilized to create and shape sound with Jeff Herriott.
.
Throughout the entirety of the event, there will be a hands-on and interactive “synth gallery” where participants can experience creating electronic music.
.
This electric day ends with a performance featuring the workshop facilitators: @timkaiserduluth , @lornaduuune and Jeff Herriott.
.
Performance and synth gallery are free and open to the public.
.
$30 for access to all three workshops.

Take a look behind the scenes at the installation of Tinuade Oyelowo's (@tinuade_art ) "Recast...when things break," art exhibition, which is on view now through June 20 with an opening reception on May 8.
"Recast... When Things Break, " explores the bloodlines of African American identity — specifically the tenacity of the immigrant experience and the grit of the American South. Oyelowo's work exists at the meeting point of these two histories, seeking a definition of healing from generational trauma.
"I utilize a specific material language to evoke the Black body without rendering it explicitly," she said. "This 'invisible existence' serves as a metaphor for history itself: a presence that is undeniable even when it is not recognized."
Mark your calendars! Lab^4 Team 3's programming has begun, and this month features an array of experiential events. For more information, be sure to visit our website. This programming was made possible by funding from The Ruth Foundation for the Arts.
