A whole lot of viola energy in one place… 🎻
Looking forward to playing with these viola lovelies on Saturday. Some fantastic music and possibly a little trouble clef shenanigans along the way.

On Saturday, March 14th at 7pm at Rhythmic Arts Center NYC, Composers Concordance presents an exhilarating evening of new music spotlighting the viola in all its expressive, volatile, and unexpected glory. The event, entitled 'Timbre Tantrum - Violas' features world-class performers and a diverse roster of composers exploring the viola’s rich timbral possibilities—from gritty textures and extended techniques to lyrical intensity and explosive ensemble interplay.
The program brings together strings, rhythm, and amplified textures in a dynamic concert experience that challenges traditional roles of the viola while embracing its raw emotional power. Featured composers include: Aaron Alter, Lynn Bechtold, Natasha Bogojevich, Graciela Carriqui, Marvin Camacho, Dan Cooper, Artie Dibble, Moppa Elliott and Gene Pritsker. As part of Composers Concordance’s ongoing mission to present innovative voices in contemporary music, 'Timbre Tantrum: Violas' promises an evening of risk-taking, collaboration, and sonic discovery.
Featured compositions include Gene Pritsker's 'Always Try To Keep A Patch Of Sky Above Your Life,' Graciela Carriqui's 'Father-Daughter Dance,' Aaron Alter's 'Taste of the 7th Movement (Finale) of Cantata of Praise,' and Lynn Bechtold's 'Congruent Affect.'

“The book made me cry. The immigrant experience- it’s so real.” - Maria, audience member. Responses like this make us 🥹. Every year we pour over children’s picture books by artists of color to promote the rich artistic contributions of Black and Latinx cultures and bring them to you at “Rising in the Heights.” It’s our privilege and responsibility to share these stories. ❤️❤️❤️

Last night was an amazing performance to be a part of with @parlandonyc ! It was thrilling being able to perform with such an amazing viola section and get the chance to perform some legendary pieces, including Takemitsu's Toward the Sea II, Faure’s Nocturne from Shylock, the second movement of Mozart's Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra in C Major, and Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta. Truly grateful to @federmannikki@artiedibble@violajazz1@cbarros_143@kiley.rowe and of course to our conductor and fearless leader @ian.niederhoffer .
