Huzzah! It is done! Initially, I couldn't figure out what I wanted to paint on my belly cast, but my mom suggested a sunflower since we canceled our baby bump photoshoot that was going to be in a field of sunflowers. How perfect, considering she IS our 🌻!
Since I love all the colors in the world and I'm indecisive, I just went ahead and went all rainbow with it haha. I have no regrets!! 😁
The 5th pic is against the window so the background colors don't pop as much as the flower itself. But all the other pics and the vid show the true colors of my belly cast in natural sunlight.
This project was so exciting to do and I couldn't be more pleased. Believe it or not, this captures my bump at 31 weeks. I can't imagine if I were to have waited to do my cast now (at 36 weeks). It would be MASSIVE 🤣.

LIFE IS GOOD. I had such a great time at DC's Pancakes & Booze show this week. Setting up my wall really awoken a side of me I had lost for a while. Yes, I'm a happy mom and a happy wife, but I often forget who I am outside of those two roles (and the many other unlisted roles I fill). I have been a creative most of my life, but sometimes it takes a big event like this to reignite your fire. I told myself in January that my main resolution is to dig deep, find, define, and reclaim my identity as Stephanie. So here I am. Slowly but surely coming back. Super grateful for a number of people, including the beautiful souls I got to connect with during the show. Stay tuned for that upcoming post of good vibes!!

"Gray" and "grey" are... a neutral or achromatic color—a color “without color" between black and white, like a cloud-covered sky, ashes, or lead.

I've been working on a black & white series for the past couple of months, and I'm very much enjoying the challenge.
My art motto has always been "Where Color & Emotion Collide," so to express myself as boldly and dramatically, or as subtly as possible using a limited palette, has been a wild process. The question is, how do I balance the values, the darks vs the lights, without ending up with too much grey? How do I build an interesting composition each time without getting bored?
Well, I have found that my favorite element in all these b&w paintings is texture. The texture combined with the shades of paint adds a lot of fun and spice for me. I'm still new to b&w, but I'm embracing this art journey!

This love has gone to her new forever home. She was one of my first pieces painted during the pandemic, when George Floyd was on the top of our minds. When the nation came together to stand our ground about what's right and what's wrong. Regardless of color. Regardless of politics. We are one human, and it is our duty to act like it.
In hindsight, I should have probably taken off the Thank You card before documenting my farewell to this piece lol.
NOTE: Like most of my abstract work, there is no one way to hang this painting. You can rotate it until it makes the most sense, or is most visually pleasing to you. Thus, the multiple pics. 😊

I'm still riding the high of last week's art show! Meeting so many cool cats and getting a handful of surprise visits from family and friends made the experience very enjoyable. But as much as I goofed off, it was truly special to be able to connect with some of you on much deeper levels, as well.
If any community understands the daily struggles of mental illnesses, the need for some sort of healthy escape or focus or mental release, and the power of expression in all forms possible, it is this community, right here, with my fellow creatives.
Whether you are just starting your art journey and have yet to discover your unique style, whether you are having writers block and can't think of lyrics or your poetry has lost its flow, whether you are bored and feel like you have plateaud by painting the same stuff again and again, whether you are incredibly brave taking risks with very loud artwork, unashamed, or with controversial symbolism that deserves and, in fact, invites conversations, I applaud you. I see you. I feel you. All journeys are textured, so it doesn't matter if you're on a roll or feeling stuck at this moment in time. Don't give up on your creativity because it can quite literally be life-saving.
