For the inauguration of @dieangewandte ‘s new rector a few weeks ago, I was asked about my future wishes for the university. I spoke on “standards” of education, how we critically approach that in my course @ars_sciendi and what that means for who teaches within such institutions. Video is split into 2 slides.

Dealing with a topic as vast and rich as the Cosmos in class is one thing: seeing and experiencing how it is curated within artistic institutions is another.
We were grateful for a tour by Stella Asiimwe through Tabita Rezaire’s first solo exhibition in Vienna at Weltmuseum Wien “Calabash Nebula: Cosmological Tales of Connection” where the artist combines digital media, ritual, oral history and storytelling as indigenous knowledge and methodology.
Who gets to view the sky and stars, how and at what cost? What knowledge do have of the stars and where does it come from?

Our first guest lecture of the semester was by @sound.seeeker ✨🔉🎛️🎙️
Mlondi uses his experience with physical theater to make using instruments intuitive and embodied.
Students ranged from zero to some experience with producing music and soundscapes but worked together to show each other and play sound out collectively.
About Mlondi’s practice:
“Seeker, Sound. is both a research and a shared practice. It invites students to experiment with listening as a communal practice, and to sense the subtle energy fields that connect us; exploring how sound can become a site of relation, awareness, and where insights emerge. Through exercises in listening, sounding, and discussion, the workshop aims to open a space where the shared frequency can be felt and carried forward.” @sound.seeeker
Our first COR! session was everything we hoped it would be and even more. Thanks to every single one of you (around 80 people!) who came by and listened to and sang with us.
Thank you @tonicahunter for the impulse lecture and shout out team COR! for making it all happen : @_noramayr@_evaweber@tschoerdy.ceramics.photography@mimikaze
Stayed tuned next COR! next month with @verena_giesinger ! ✨
Welcome to all new and returning students! ✨
@ars_sciendi now enters its third year and I am so thrilled that so many of you continue to take interest in this course and what it offers.
This year we are aligning more explicitly with the @artscience.ak overall annual theme of “memory” and in true @ars_sciendi style it of course centers the “otherwordly”: knowledges, memories and perspectives across art and science and everything in between and beyond.
Take a look at our core reading list and feel free to suggest your readings, listening, musings in the comments below - we love a good reference!
Starting October 8th at SR34. 😬
Lecturer @tonicahunter
some impressions from our SS25 final presentations.
students are asked to bring any artistic project they’re working on or planning on working on - or dreaming of - for input and feedback from the class whilst integrating theory and practice from the semester.
Was an absolute pleasure to have had @shanalonzo as a guest lecturer @ars_sciendi today. Shannon’s practice really resonates with a lot of what we have been covering this semester from Caribbean oral epistemologies to artistic practices centering the ancestral and collective.
Thank you to @dr._hanin_hannouch the curator who is behind bringing Shannon’s work to be exhibited in Vienna 🙌
last semester, so many of the students took to knitting during class as as way of aiding their learning. we found it interesting as a knowing method so here’s a little video for you. and feel free to join us next semester or next year (sign up via link in bio) #knowingknitting #learningwhilstdoing #theartofknowing #arssciendi
unruly was truly an experience thank you @rimondarr for sharing your glass blowing knowledge with a fun and sticky medium : 🍬.
that concludes our open format for this year. but we hope to see you next semester. you can sign up for our course in the link in the bio.
thanks to all students who made this possible in every way. thanks to @ail_vienna for hosting us and @artscience.ak for the exhibition in which this symposium took place! the finissage is this Friday, don’t miss it!

last week was the second part of our class symposium exploring a new format: an “undisciplined” dinner.
from herb-gathering to food sharing, play and misusing and repurposing games, dreaming and creating off spaces for reflection and non productivity - we reanimated the themes from this semester and again invited our public to explore them with us.

last Wednesday we kicked off our “unreasonable” symposium as part of the side programme to the @artscience.ak exhibition “Refractice Perspectives” @ail_vienna .
@iamchandarule led us through her lecture performance “the Biotechnology of Song” exploring the importance of singing together as a way to connect, empathise and empower.
Thank you @rebecca.martinek for the photos!
We go again this Wednesday 19th June with “undisciplined”. 18h00 at Kassenhalle, Postsparkasse!
Join us tonight for the first part of this three-part symposium: Departing from a debunking of myths under the guise of a Eurocentric ‘EnLIGHTenment’, this three-evening symposium will present Art/Science knowledge from the undisciplined, the unruly and the unreasonable through performance and discourse, featuring impulses and exchanges from students and guests.
