DP Subhankar Bhar ISC brings us into the world of “Chiraiya”, a 2026 Hindi drama web series directed by Shashant Shah, Captured with ALEXA Mini LF paired with Signature Prime lenses. ㅤ “‘Chiraiya’ is a social drama, so for me the starting point was always a kind of organic naturalism in the image. But at the same time, I didn’t want it to feel purely observational.- ㅤ As a cinematographer, the choice of camera and lenses is never just technical.With ‘Chiraiya', I knew the visual narrative needed a kind of quiet intimacy, something that stays very close to the emotional life of the characters without ever feeling imposed. ㅤ That’s where the combination of the ALEXA Mini LF and ARRI Signature Prime lenses really shaped the texture of the film. What stood out to me immediately was the organic softness of the lenses - they take away that digital sharpness without losing detail. Skin tones feel lived-in, environments touched by time. And for a story that relies so much on human connection, that subtle softness helps the audience stay with the characters rather than become aware of the image-making. ㅤ The colour palette was also a conscious choice. The world itself is vibrant, full of life, and we wanted to honour that. But within that colour, my effort was to gently introduce the underlying grimness of the reality-through light, through shadow, through how we chose to frame a face or a space. For director Adhvaith Nayar's "Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies," cinematographer Anend C Chandran brings the ALEXA 35 to capture the WWE-inspired wrestling world of Fort Kochi. Released theatrically on January 22, 2026, the action-comedy stars Arjun Ashokan and Roshan Mathew, with a special cameo by Mammootty. Known for his work on "Premam", "Bheeshma Parvam", and "Bougainvillaea", Chandran (@anendcchandran ) relied on ALEXA 35 and vintage lenses to achieve a stylized yet raw visual texture. ㅤ "Visual philosophy was all about how to stylize the visual texture while maintaining the rawness and truth of the story world. WWE nostalgia, real-world references from my childhood, my world around WWE with my sibling was the starting point.The lenses I used are old lenses which are more than 25 years old, the whole engineering inside the optics is very different to the present lenses. To get the maximum feel and character of the lens, sensor choice plays a big role. DP Vijay Kartik Kannan (@vijaykartikkannan ) shares how he shot a scene of the Indian movie “Daaku Maharaaj” that was lit purely with candles, using the ALEXA 35’s ES (Enhanced Sensitivity) mode: “There’s a sequence with Bobby Deol where we didn’t want artificial eye light. He has very deep-set eyes, so instead of lighting them, we chose to let real candles do the work. We switched off all lights, moved to 2560 ES, and shot the entire scene with just candlelight. On set, it felt impossibly dark—people were confused. But the image landed exactly where we wanted it. Texture held, shadows stayed alive, and the brightness felt natural. Having been owned by descendants of its Munich-based founders for the last 109 years, ARRI is proud to be continuing its journey under private German ownership. ㅤ What changes? For our customers and our staff, nothing other than some fascinating collaborative opportunities. In the meantime, we’ll be carrying on doing what we know best – developing high-end imaging tools for the motion picture and live entertainment markets.
