🎈 Let’s All Abandon Reality Together? 🛰️ Last week I released a new edition of my mixtape delivery service — 60 minutes of music for yoga, co-created with Jonathan Bruce Williams (@arraykinetics ). 🖇️ Link in bio…as the saying goes. The mix takes its name from Jonny’s show of animated LED lightboxes, currently on view at @kaimatsumiya gallery in Manhattan (in collaboration with @dept_of_transformation ). You can see it at 264 Canal St NYC, through October 25. In addition to being a maker and fixer of objects, Jonny is a yoga teacher in training. 🧘🏻 We built this playlist to accompany one of his classes — a soundtrack to help you ease back into your body, even as reality itself feels increasingly unstable. Featuring Daniel Higgs, Alice Coltrane, Jo.Ke, Liars, and the Pygmies of the Ituri Forest, among others.

Exciting news! Douglas Rushkoff, author of “Program or Be Programmed” along with many other best selling books, will be joining us at Kai Matsumiya gallery for a talk and conversation about technology, programming, AI, and algorithms. In dialogue with the works on view, he will explore how we might protect, reclaim, and resist in the face of today’s digital onslaught. This in-person event is presented as a part of Jonathan Bruce Williams’ exhibition “Let’s All Abandon Reality Together” at Kai Matsumiya in collaboration with the Department of Transformation. Please join us on Tuesday, Oct 21 from 6–8pm at 264 Canal St #5E About Douglas Rushkoff Douglas Rushkoff is an author and documentarian who studies human autonomy in a digital age. Dear dear dears❣️ Tomorrow is a BIG day for me & D🌎T: we’re opening our *first* exhibition, a pop-up show with artist & technologist Jonathan Bruce Williams 🦂“Consciousness Energy Grid” is the result of YEARS of dialogue 🔮 Yes, it’s “only” six works + a custom display, but this glowing show gets right to the heart of the cloudy field that D🌍T tries to traverse: the space between experimental art & healing ❤️‍🩹 It’s a weird, wild, and often wacky territory, but one that feels even more important in this fraught & uncertain time 😬 So, would you come join me, Jonny, and the D🌏T crew this Sunday, May 4? From 4–6pm we have a special workshop with Jonny + art advisor & mindfulness teacher Payal Parekh, followed by an opening reception from 6–8pm. I’d love love love to see you there. Listen, I’m *pretty* sure it’ll be an experience you’ve never had before. And, if not, at least we’ll get to gather together amid the wreckage of the present moment. Much love, til soon, P! — “Consciousness Energy Grid” premieres a new series of wall-mounted lightbox sculptures by artist & technologist Jonathan Bruce Williams, presented by Dept of Transformation from May 4–11 at The Clemente. Conceived as part of a longstanding investigation of technology’s potential to expand consciousness, Williams’ mesmerizing works explore how the body and mind respond to layered fields of imagery and animated light. To launch this special presentation, DOT welcomes you to participate in “Conscious Connection,” an experimental mindfulness and movement workshop led by Williams and art advisor/yoga instructor Payal Parekh. Join us tomorrow, Sunday May 4 from 4-6pm as we tap into our wireless networks and our neural networks on a collective journey from the cosmos to pure consciousness. Stick around after the workshop for a reception to celebrate “Consciousness Energy Grid”! RSVP to “Conscious Connection” via link in bio, and drop us a line at [email protected] for more info or to make an appointment to visit “Consciousness Energy Grid,” on view only through May 11 at The Clemente. @dept_of_transformation @theclemente @arraykinetics @sofishau @youcanseesam @andreslarrea__ @markjfoss

🥂 Please join Department of Transformation on Sunday, May 4 at The Clemente for the opening of “Consciousness Energy Grid”⚡️an exhibition of wall-mounted lightbox sculptures by artist Jonathan Bruce Williams that elicit somatic responses and invite altered states of consciousness through layered fields of image, movement, and light 🕯️ Informed by the history of “The Gateway Process,” a top-secret experimental research project conducted by the CIA in the 1980s to explore consciousness expansion and psychic phenomena, Williams’ works play in the contested terrain between the scientific and the subjective 🧿 🧘🏽‍♀️ To launch the exhibition, DOT invites you to join us at 4pm for “Conscious Connection,” a collaborative workshop led by Williams and art advisor/yoga instructor Payal Parekh 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼Departing from Consciousness Energy Grid’s sculptural exploration of bodily vulnerability, altered states, and the transformative valence of movement and light, Williams begins this experiential program by demonstrating the creative use (and abuse) of mobile communication technologies to form a chain of uncanny connection that summons the ghosts in our collective machines 📱 Parekh follows by leading participants in an embodied practice that includes stretching, meditation, reflection, and discussion based on “Blessed Rest by Payal” 🃏 an affirmational card deck conceived as a supportive reminder that rest is our collective birthright and a critical aspect of healing ❤️‍🩹 → 4–6pm: “Conscious Connection” workshop → 6-8pm: “Consciousness Energy Grid” opening reception → “Consciousness Energy Grid” is on view May 4–11 by appointment; email [email protected] for more information Slide 1: “Consciousness Energy Grid” poster by @markjfoss and @prem_krishnamurthy Slide 2: Jonathan Bruce Williams, “Feathery Serpent” (2024) Slide 3: “Conscious Connection” poster by @markjfoss and @prem_krishnamurthy Slide 4: Payal Parekh, “Blessed Rest,” part of Dept of Transformation “Ways of Showing Up,” July 11, 2024 at The Performing Garage, photo by Hari Adivarekar @theclemente @parekhpayal @prem_krishnamurthy @youcanseesam @andreslarrea__ @arraykinetics

On January 31, 2024—2,5 years after founding MENSCHMASCHINE Studio—we worked together closely with the best launch committee we could have asked for to check if all systems are Go to perform a successful launch of a long overdue website out into the internet: 🛜menschmaschine.studio🌐 Let‘s be honest, never are all systems Go. Within our practice as a studio we got to understand interfaces not only as surfaces to digital possibilities but as believe and power systems with (un)clear boundaries. To us interfaces are any point of contact that governs conditions of exchange. „How to Launch an Interface“ has been an interface itself and one between a lot of different things: process and result, Hamburg and New York, the participants among each other, cashews and almonds, problems and solutions (and more problems and more solutions), endings and beginnings, … We celebrated not only that nothing is ever finished but also to sometimes just be brave, playful, wing it, be spontaneous, fail, try again, mess up, have fun doing so, to not forget to gather and connect, laugh, feel the feels, raise a glass (or three) and trust the process. Thank you @prem_krishnamurthy !

Not only did we have the pleasure to create a visual identity and website for the brilliant practice of @arraykinetics during the past months but also got to celebrate its (soft-) launch together with mastermind Jonny himself, slurping 20 well deserved oysters on a Saturday in Lower Manhattan, it was a vibe!
