A couple of you reached out recently to check in on @aromaticstudies — wondering if everything was okay, why things had gone quiet. Thank you for that. It’s a good feeling, knowing people notice. šŸ’š We’re here. Just slower. After a month away at a health retreat, I’ve been easing back into daily life with a different pace. Less urgency. More time in the garden, which this time of year means watching the perennials push up through the soil, clearing beds, making space for what’s coming. There’s something grounding about that kind of work — it asks nothing of you except your attention. 🌻 I’ve also been sitting with some honest questions about social media. It can be a genuinely useful thing for a small business, and I do value being able to stay connected with people who care about aromatics and what we’re building at the school. But I’d be less than honest if I didn’t acknowledge the other side of it — how much energy it pulls from your day, how easy it is to confuse posting with actually saying something, how rarely any of it adds real value to the lived experience of the person scrolling through it. 🌻 So for now, we’re being more selective. Showing up when there’s something worth saying. 🌻If you’d like to stay in touch in a quieter, more intentional way, the link in our bio will take you to our newsletter. šŸ’š

Why I Love Working With Frankincense & Myrrh šŸ’š After three decades with plants, some materials still stop me in my tracks. Frankincense and myrrh are two of them. šŸ’š Both of the oleo-gum-resins are from Oman —precious materials that have been treasured for thousands of years. And here’s what fascinates me: when we steam distill them, we capture their aromatic soul, but we leave behind some of their most powerful healing compounds. That’s why I’ve been working on perfecting the process of infusing oleo-gum-resins into a carrier oil, specifically jojoba oil. šŸ’š Frankincense (Boswellia sacra) contains boswellic acids—remarkable anti-inflammatory compounds that simply don’t make it into the essential oil. When you infuse the resin tears directly in oil, you get these along with the volatile aromatics. The result is frankincense as a complete medicine: grounding for the spirit, regenerative for aging skin, deeply supportive for wounds and scars. šŸ’š Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) teaches a similar lesson. The heavier sesquiterpenes and resinous compounds—the ones that make myrrh such profound medicine for damaged tissue and compromised skin—stay behind in distillation. But infuse the tears? You get the full therapeutic spectrum that traditional healers have relied on for millennia. šŸ’š These infused oils represent frankincense and myrrh as whole plant medicines—not just fractions of them. Extracted with love and patience. Each of these infused oils has taken over a month to complete. šŸ’š I’m genuinely excited to offer these. They’ve become essential in my own practice, and I hope they serve yours just as well. Thirty five years ago, I made a decision that would transform my entire life—I became a certified aromatherapist. šŸ’š At the time, I couldn’t have imagined where this path would lead me. From those first lessons in essential oil chemistry to my first distillation, from formulating my first blend to teaching my first student, aromatherapy didn’t just become my career; it became my calling. 🌻 This beautiful practice has given me the tools to support healing, the knowledge to educate others, and a connection to plants that deepens every single year. It’s brought me a community of like-minded practitioners, a lifetime of continuous learning, and the profound satisfaction of doing work that truly matters. 🌻 If you’ve been drawn to aromatherapy—if you feel that pull toward plant medicine, toward holistic healing, toward making a real difference—I encourage you to take that step. The School for Aromatic Studies offers comprehensive certification programs that honor both traditional wisdom and modern science. As a truly international school recognized as a leader in aromatherapy education, we’re committed to preparing practitioners who are knowledgeable, ethical, and ready to serve their communities. 🌻 Your journey could start today. Pumpkin spice everything (yes, even your skincare) šŸŽƒāœØ This is hands down one of my favorite seasonal scrubs! Fresh pumpkin spice sugar scrub made with real baked pumpkin (I use the extra from my pumpkin pie prep, but canned works beautifully too!), warming ginger + cardamom essential oils, and vanilla jojoba. The smell alone is worth it, but your skin will thank you too! Pro tip: Keep this beauty refrigerated and use within a week for maximum freshness. Makes the perfect seasonal gift (or keep it all for yourself—no judgment here šŸ˜‰) Who else is ready for cozy, exfoliating self-care season? . . . . . #pumpkinspice #sugarscrub #aromatherapy #fallskincare #naturalbeauty #essentialoils #handmade #organicskincare #aromatherapist #botanicalbodycare #autumnvibes

Black Spruce: The Adrenal Restorative Black Spruce (Picea mariana) is my go to essential oil during times of stress. This northern conifer’s essential oil, rich in bornyl acetate and monoterpenes, has an affinity for adrenal restoration. Traditional application: 2-3 drops diluted in carrier oil, massaged over the kidney area each morning. French aromatherapy has long recognized Black Spruce’s ability to combat profound fatigue without overstimulation—it strengthens rather than agitates. Beyond adrenal support, this oil addresses respiratory congestion, supports immune function, and relieves muscular inflammation. Its fresh, resinous aroma grounds and clarifies, making it valuable for both physical recovery and mental exhaustion. A cornerstone oil for anyone experiencing burnout, chronic stress, or the deep fatigue that comes from prolonged demands on the body. . . . . . #BlackSpruce #AdrenalSupport #ClinicalAromatherapy #EssentialOilTherapeutics #ChronicFatigue #BotanicalMedicine #PiceaMariana #selfcare #essentialoils #holidaystress

Seeking a pause amidst holiday season? I’ve been feeling the pull to slow down lately—to really pause and nourish myself in the midst of everything the holidays bring. So I’ve been back in my farm kitchen, enjoying the range of botanical ingredients and creating these bath bombs as an act of self care (and maybe for you too). ✨ Frankincense & Rose Bath Fizzy ✨ What you’ll need: • 1 cup baking soda • 1/2 cup citric acid • 2-3 tsp Damask Rose herbal oil • 10-12 drops Frankincense/Myrrh Codistillation And 10-20 sprays rose hydrosol (just enough to slightly moisten) • Dried calendula & rose petals 🌻 How to make them: Mix your baking soda and citric acid, then sift through a strainer to remove clumps. Blend your essential oil with the herbal oil, then whisk into the dry ingredients. Add a pinch of dried petals to your mold, fill with the mixture, and press firmly. Let set for 1-2 hours before unmolding, then dry overnight on parchment paper. šŸ’ The Frankincense/Myrrh codistillation calms the mind, while Damask rose offers pure compassion in action—exactly what we need right now. šŸ› If you don’t have Frankincense/Myrrh, you can add just Frankincense or just Myrrh. Neroli Essential Oil: Relieves Anxiety and Stress Neroli essential oil is one of my most beloved essential oils. As someone who deals with anxiety, neroli is my go-to essential oil to calm and nourish my nervous system. I love to use it in a roll on or personal inhaler. 🌻 It blends beautifully with Tangerine, Rose, Ylang ylang, Sweet orange, and Ginger. Neroli essential oil comes from the fragrant blossoms of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium var. amara). 🌻 Clinical studies have shown that neroli can be quite effective for managing stress and anxiety. For women experiencing menopausal symptoms, research has demonstrated that inhaling neroli oil (at concentrations of 0.1% or 0.5%) for just 5 minutes twice daily over 5 days significantly decreased stress levels, reduced blood pressure, increased libido, and helped alleviate various menopausal symptoms. 🌻 The calming effects of neroli have been linked its interaction with the HPA axis (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis), which plays a key role in our stress response. Rich in compounds like linalool, limonene, and linalyl acetate, neroli helps reduce feelings of being overwhelmed or out of control. 🌻 Whether diffused in your home, added to a personal inhaler, or used in a diluted roll-on, neroli offers a gentle yet effective way to find balance during stressful times. Its sweet, floral aroma creates an atmosphere of calm that can help transform your emotional state naturally. 🌻 Do you have a favorite recipe using Neroli? Our traditional respiratory salve recipe—with one change this time. I swapped in white sage 🌱 herbal oil, and it’s shifting the whole formula in a beautifu way. I’ve always had eucalyptus and the usual suspects doing their thing, but the white sage adds this layer of cineole-rich support that rounds everything out. Plus the aroma? More grounded, camphoraceous and powerful. šŸ’š What’s special about our white sage herbal oil, I grew it in our garden at the farm! Then harvested, dried, and infused in organic sunflower 🌻 oil And if you don’t have the herbal oil, that’s okay too! Simply add quantity of jojoba oil (or other carrier oil). If you want to try this version, we’ve got white sage herbal oil in our shop at distillaromatics.com šŸ’š Link in bio.
