Same pose.
Different days.
Different versions of me.
And somehow… every single one of these moments mattered.
It’s wild how easy it is to focus on what’s not changing fast enough, but looking at this? I had to check myself. This journey started in 2022, and I’ve been showing up, even on the days I sholl as hell didn’t feel like it.
Sweaty selfies.
Quick check-ins.
“I almost didn’t go” workouts.
But I went.
And I didn’t do it alone! It takes a village!
To the people who have let me blow up their phones with these exact photos over and over again...
@parriswagner (keeping me fresh AND accountable ✂️)
@shawnaloveswellness (my sister from another mister 💚)
@freedomworldwide (trainer I’ll be back with soon, just watch 💪🏽)
@b.shields.la (my good sober Judy 🖤)
Thank you. For the encouragement, the accountability, the “keep going,” the "I see you," the “you got this,” even when I didn’t fully believe it myself.
Y’all have been a real part of this journey!
And I’m not done yet
I’ve had the honor of appearing on three queer television series over the past 6 years... The L Word: Generation Q, Queer as Folk, and Work in Progress. Two of those roles were heavily recurring guest stars.
Projects that center queer stories. Queer communities. Queer visibility.
And yet, somehow, I’ve never been invited to a single @glaad event.
This isn’t about a party or award shows. It’s about who gets recognized as part of the culture I have actively been building.
There are so many working black queer actors out here doing the work, telling the stories, showing up on screen, and contributing to the visibility that organizations celebrate every year.
I’m proud and thankful for the work I’ve done and the stories I’ve been a part of.
But I do think it’s worth asking: who gets included in the room when we celebrate queer media? 🤨😘
THE COLORED MUSEUM opens this Friday at @celebrationarts and runs til the 22nd! Come see me and the beautiful @brooklynntange give you Ebony Fashion Fair meets Get Out! And the amazing cast and crew led by @msanova !
Loving the skin I'm in is easy, even in this current environment. Loving the body I'm in can sometimes be a struggle. I love this pic captured by @msanova It screams Black Queer Thicc They Joy. HAPPY BLACK HISTORY MONTH.
12 years of sobriety... of wins... of losses... of gratitude... of heartache... of serenity... of frustration... of laughter... of tears... of purpose... BUT NOT of substances. Thankful.
This isn’t a “before/after.”
It’s a witness statement.
This year has been heavy for me, and for so many of us.
I put some pounds back on that I had lost last year while moving through grief, loss, and an industry in flux that’s been difficult to navigate. The world, in many ways, has been asking a lot of all of us.
My body held it all.
These photos are 4 weeks apart.
I’m shedding old skin, reclaiming my power, and finding my way back to myself.
I want to start documenting my fitness journey more honestly... not just the highlights, but the becoming.
