There’s good news for one group of commuters between Arlington and D.C., and bad news for another.
The southbound GW Parkway ramp onto the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge is expected to close for repairs beginning today (Friday) and continuing through mid-August, according to the District Department of Transportation. At the same time, weather permitting, the eastbound ramp onto the bridge from Arlington Blvd will be reopening for the first time since February.

A popular fried chicken franchise from South Korea is celebrating the grand opening of its first D.C.-area location in Ballston today (Friday).
BHC Chicken, which describes itself as the “No. 1 Korean Chicken Franchise,” plans to offer three free chicken tenders to its first 100 guests from today through Sunday at 875 N. Randolph Street, in the former Hangry Joe’s spot.

Arlington County police are looking for suspects in three business robberies reported across the county on Tuesday.
In each incident, suspects allegedly took merchandise from a retail store and either used force or made threats against employees, according to an Arlington County Police Department crime report.

Construction is underway at the long-vacated Cosi restaurant in Rosslyn — but it’s not for a new dining tenant.
Instead, the Department of State is expanding its lobby, located next door, into the empty retail space at 1801 N. Lynn Street, an agency spokesperson told ARLnow. The expansion is intended to “accommodate security upgrades, visitor badging, and updated finishes” at the building, which is home to the Bureau of Diplomatic Security.

Columbia Pike community members are planning a vigil tonight (Wednesday) for a man police fatally shot during a standoff last Friday.
The death of Shawn Valn, 33, remains under investigation by the Northern Virginia Critical Incident Response Team and no new information from the Arlington County Police Department is publicly available right now, police spokesperson Ashley Savage told ARLnow.

After months of complaints about missed trash pickups and other waste collection issues, Arlington County is ditching its current contractor in favor of its former provider.
The county announced today that it will be ending its contract with Bates Trucking and Trash Removal on Aug. 1, one year after Bates took over responsibility for providing curbside pickup for trash, recycling and organics — a change that almost immediately led to complaints from dissatisfied residents.

Pike Cornerstone has closed its doors for the last time after just over two years in business.
The restaurant and bar, which aimed to create a “home away from home” atmosphere with hearty bar fare, cocktails and a dog-friendly patio, held its “final call” on Saturday. It opened at 2900 Columbia Pike, at the former site of Rebellion on the Pike, in April 2024.

A Maryland man is facing a serious felony charge after police say he got out of his car and struck a pedestrian.

The Virginia Supreme Court on Friday struck down a voter-approved Democratic congressional redistricting plan, delivering another major setback to the party in a nationwide battle against Republicans for an edge in this year’s midterm elections.
The court ruled 4-3 that the state’s Democratic-led legislature violated procedural requirements when it placed the constitutional amendment on the ballot to authorize mid-decade redistricting. Voters narrowly approved the amendment on April 21, but the court’s ruling renders the vote’s result meaningless.
