It's been a while since I've had something to post, as stock shortages over the last year had put me virtually out of commission. In the meantime, I collected a whopping dozen or so requests for samples of the ARL Designs line, which I am currently working on, and this 32.25x41 spaceship frame for Finishing Touches down in Wakefield, RI. Definitely my biggest spaceship to date, but super fun to see it come together. Can't wait to see what comes my way next!
I have been trying to find time to do a full frame in this potential new finish for the line, a faux rough raku. Raku is a pottery technique (Japanese I believe) which involves burning organic materials with high heat, resulting in gorgeous color combinations, sometimes metallic or iridescent. Obviously I can't burn a wood frame to get the same result, but with some paint and mica powders, I try to come as close as I can. This is the first of some new finishes I hope to add to the line this year. Stay tuned!
Just finishing up an order for a bunch of steampunk ready-made frames for a frame shop in Texas. Just need to add glass and foam and easel backs, and these guys will be ready to ship. Takes a long time to get to this point, but oh so worth it!
Been a while since I've had something new to post, but just finished up this piece, using the weathered bronze finish stacked with a black shadowbox to frame this collection that once belonged to my customer's grandfather. Bit of a challenge to get it built out correctly, but think it came out awesome. I know my customer's gonna love it!
Finally!!! WCAF orders are ready to pack and ship. The volume of orders combined with the orders coming in on the tail of a couple of large customer jobs delayed me some. Then the delays were compounded by the mandatory shutdown of businesses in the state due to COVID-19. Incredibly annoying. BUT they are done and can be sent to shops across the country, and hopefully I can get back on a proper building schedule. Too those folks awaiting their sample orders, thank you so much for your patience. You'll get these beauties soon!
Whew! This quarantine business has put me way behind on getting samples done for the folks who ordered in Vegas this past January, but am finally starting to see the end of the tunnel. Have gotten the bulk of base coats and primers done, and will soon be starting the finally finishing. Hopefully things will be leveling out soon so can start banging things out, cuz sneaking out during lockdown is no fun. Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. Cheers!
Fresh from the text kitchen. I am trying to find the best profile to use for my Gargoyle finish. Both profiles have some definite potential. Decisions, decisions.
Kinda crazy what a difference a black or white background makes. Same frame in both pics, but completely different looks. Anyway, with the application of the "lights" in the customer's requested color, this spaceship is ready for liftoff! Thanks for following the progression of the developing finish. Don't think I have taken the opportunity to document the stages it goes through to achieve the final result.
