⚓ The sea was the first network. Before cables, before code—there were routes, winds, and memory. The Arka Kinari moves through these ancient lines, carrying not goods, but culture. The @arkakinari is a working sailing vessel operating at the intersection of art, ecology, and cultural exchange. Since 2019, the project has navigated historic maritime routes across the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Pacific, and is now active within the Indonesian Archipelago. Reframing the logic of global movement, Arka Kinari positions culture as its primary cargo—engaging with coastal communities through performances, workshops, and shared forms of knowledge production. Arka Kinari currently welcomes applications to join the crew. Participants contribute to all aspects of daily life onboard, from maintenance and navigation to cultural programming. The project provides transportation, visas, accommodation, meals, and a stipend. In return, it requires commitment, practical engagement, and the willingness to operate within a demanding and collaborative environment. Tes kesabaran kali ini diberikan oleh Laut Merah. Cintanya yang keras melempar-lempar tubuh kami seenaknya. Bermalam-malam separuh tidur, tidak pernah dalam dan selalu merasa harus berjaga-jaga. Dalam perjalanan, terdengar suara objek yang terbang, mengaung keras tanpa wujud. Sejenak internet tidak bisa diakses, black out, menghalangi akses kepada informasi. Rupanya begini cara mengamankan Laut Merah dengan teknologi pengacakan geo lokasi. Sudah tiga minggu kami tidak makan sayur yang hijau, sebab pemberhentian terakhir adalah gurun yang gersang, tidak subur dan penuh kambing. Pada saat kami lanjut berlayar, tidak ada kiriman satu kapal pun dari daratan besar ke Pulau Socotra. Bukan hanya kami saja yang rindu sayur mayur, warga pun juga. Ini masih separuh perjalanan saja menembus Laut Merah, punggung kami butuh diluruskan, maka kami rehat sejenak. Meski keras, Laut Merah sempat memberi hadiah, ikan barracuda yang yakin kalau umpan kita layak dilahap. Jadilah kami punya persediaan protein cukup untuk beberapa hari. "Membunuh waktu"

For those of you not paying attention, theres’ been a lot of fear and speculation if Yemen’s Houthi government would join this latest war. Last year the Houthis were attacking ships in the Bab al-Mandeb, the tiny strait which connects the Indian Ocean towards the Red Sea, with access to the Suez canal. And this strait was our only path to the Mediterranean. Incidentally Bab al-Mandeb translates to “gate of grief”, “gate of tears” or “gate of lamentation”, take your pick. We were just a few days from the Bab al-Mandeb when the Houthis finally joined the fight. Fortunately for us, their missiles were aimed at Israel instead of the ships crossing their front porch. A few days ago we quickly slipped through the Gate of Grief with a strong tailwind, and this particular hazard is now behind us. 
In the process we were witness to a global power shift, as “western” ships are too afraid to come this way and must instead circle Africa. Meanwhile Asian, Arab, Russian ships, and Arka Kinari still use this shortcut between Asia and Europe. To broadcast neutrality, ships add “Muslim vessel” or “All Chinese owner & crew” and “armed guards” to their transponder’s data. We have a cheaper transponder that doesn’t allow custom notes, so my version is to fly a giant Palestinian flag from the Yemen-facing side of the ship. Historians will certainly cite this as a key moment in the crippling of the American empire, when the world’s airspace - all of Russia and now most of the Middle East- and crucial waterways -the straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandeb- became no-go zones for Americans and their allies, handing massive logistical advantages to their adversaries.
I’m not sure any of this shit should be part of an artist’s daily workload, but can guarantee that it influences the art.
