2005.
@avader12 ‘s father handed me ‘Images and Words’ on CD and said “Spin this, you’ll love it”. Goddamn, was he right.
For the last 20+ years,
@dreamtheaterofficial played an extremely crucial role in how I approached music. The singular reason I wanted to play an Ibanez - was seeing
@johnpetrucciofficial played the JPM 100 series on all those early DVDs. From discovering all the albums, to endless attempts at playing the “Under A Glass Moon” solo and later picking up a 7 string, trying to rip through the intro of “The Dark Eternal Night”, DT’s musical prowess consumed me. They made me want to practice my butt off.
It was subconsciously also the inspiration and reason behind how “Tellurian Concepts” was written with
@eccentric_pendulum . The idea of how far you can push a piece of music without repetition and constantly create shifts and tension with the listener not knowing what’s going to come in the next 2 bars.
I’m a huge fan of the Mangini era of DT as well. But when
@mikeportnoy announced his return and did it with such panache through the “Night Terror” single, it brought back the DT of yore. The drum fills, the solos, the melodies, the lyrics - everything screamed nostalgia, and in the best way possible. “Parasomnia” is probably one of my favourite DT albums, irrespective of the era. That’s how good the comeback was.
Last night will go down as probably one of the greatest nights of my life. You build these heroes up and they deliver 1000x. Watching
@jameslabrie.dt absolutely soar through some of the melodic sections made me feel ecstatic - knowing how far he’s come with the struggles in his voice. He was phenomenal.
Thank you
@johnpetrucciofficial @jmyungimages @jcrudess @mikeportnoy @jameslabrie.dt for truly making sense of the pedestal you were placed on. It’s not random thought or perception anymore. It’s real. And the pedestal has only been placed higher.
