Kanakana - Pure Silk Scarf
Online and Instore
www.konei.nz
Te Rere o te Kanakana is about kanakana (lamprey), an ancient migratory species that has long been an important food source for iwi across Te Waipounamu. The Kanakana are known to run in abundance, signalling the arrival of Matariki.
This pattern acknowledges and celebrates Matariki from a Te Waipounamu perspective and references the saying “Ka kitea a Matariki, ka rere te kanakana” - when Matariki is seen, the lamprey migrate. It acknowledges different ways we can celebrate the time of Matariki and our interconnected relationship with te taiao.

NZDW Highlight…. 🔦
…Our incredible speakers who shared their time and whakaaro with us! The kōrero was open, honest, and generous - not at all stingy when it came to sharing knowledge, experiences, and advice.
It was especially special having rangatahi from the kura in the room, listening, learning, and soaking it all in. Opportunities like this matter, and we’re grateful our speakers were so willing to give back and share their journeys so openly - an experience that was truly valued by every single person in attendance 👏🏽
Thank you for the insights, the realness, and the encouragement you gave to the next generation. We’re so grateful for the kōrero 🤍
Your favourite of our Raumati drop so far is this beauty ❤️🔥 Te Manunui ā Tāne
Light and breezy in Satin Chiffon
Te Manunui a Tāne draws inspiration from the many birds of Tāne, whose colours and presence shaped how our ancestors understood and expressed colour within te ao Māori. This design references some of the great manu that greeted our ancestors on arrival in Aotearoa.
While many of these great birds are now extinct, their stories and legacy live on, continuing to inspire us today.
