Romanian devil folk mask handmade of sheepskin and horn. Worn for the festivals between Christmas and the New Year, the mask is meant to ward off evil and celebrate the seasonal cycle of death and rebirth. Breb, Maramures.
Merry Christmas 2025. I’ve not been home to decorate this year with construction going on apart from shooting with @knosenantiques and @shoprustygold . There’s little I love more than decorating the keeping room for Christmas so glad a tree went up even if it was brief. Oh and how about this Polish wycinanka tree topper from @zosia.sompolinska ?! It was lost in the post and arrived in the new year so this was the first time I was able to see it in action. Big fan!
Cozy Hiester House for @cabanamagazine issue No.24. Museum Director Lisa Minardi @frakturlady sourced a number of rare decorative PA German stove plates to restore the 3 hinterlader/kachelofen style cast iron stoves that were original to the home and used the remainder for firebacks seen here. Read her story in the new issue. #cabanamagazine
Heister House for @cabanamagazine Issue No. 24. From archaeological discoveries to paint analysis uncovering polka-dot parlor walls and the most exquisite oxide green I’ve ever seen, museum director Lisa Minardi @frakturlady has restored her property with extraordinary accuracy. Returning original Heister family furnishings to their rightful home, she has approached every detail with the precision of a historian and the passion of a true steward. Hats off (and a thank you for letting me share in it) to the gal who has not only recreated a period-accurate interior, but crafted a heartfelt tribute to Pennsylvania German craftsmanship—filling her home with pieces as locally rooted as possible (down to the county!)
@nathaliefarmanfarma ’s Soho office ft her Decor Barbares Lara fabric on the chair and her Hungarian red appliqué on the curtains from her collection with @namaysamay .
Stunning silk damask bed hangings recently hand sewn and installed by the talented @historictextile1 for @moffattladd ’s yellow chamber. The silk was woven by @gainsboroughweaving and based off of extant material as well as a 1768 Moffatt inventory, with original wallpaper reproduced by @adelphipaperhangings . What a privilege it was to watch Nathalie work and see the results of so many hands.
@alexandratolstoy is chatting with @housebeautiful about the design choices in her London rental that became her calling card and how she infused joy in the home. As she says farewell to the property, streamlining is top of her mind for the next place they land, which she admittedly says are her famous last words. So glad I got to visit!
