Untitled (insect 1)
Wood, handmade (dandelion cordage), dimensions variable.
As we enter a new spring cycle I’ve been thinking about my time at @poorfarm_livingintheplay last may and how my thinking during that time is currently intersecting with the ideas I am currently exploring in my work this spring.
These objects (insects) were made from forms I had been exploring going into my time there as part of my design practice and were completed using found natural materials from the property itself. Each form is held together using handmade cordage made from the hundreds of dandelion stems permeating every corner of the fields. These objects are not just as a response to the site but as collaboration and a conversation with the land itself asking questions about the use (and repurposing) of both what’s under our feet and out there. Though not invasive, dandelions aren’t native to the Midwest yet exists in a state of symbiosis, which brings me back to my current work on invasive species and what truly holds an ecosystem together.
I like to think of these as insects restlessly skittering, hidden in motion.
Thanks @ray.seebeck for the invite.
