The Chicago premiere of SPACEMAN by Leegrid Stevens blasts off to Mars this Spring!
In SPACEMAN, the difficulties of interplanetary space travel are explored in exacting detail throughout this one-woman, sci-fi odyssey. Radiation exposure, long term weightlessness, low light, extensive communication delays and poor hygiene are just a few of the challenges astronaut Molly Jennis must face as the first human to visit Mars. But she soon finds nothing compares to the psychological effects of having so much time alone. Time spent mulling over the decisions she has made and what might be waiting for her when she finally reaches her destination.

1978. Gas prices soar. President Carter struggles in the polls. The Ford Pinto is the #1 selling car in America—until the sporty hatchbacks start exploding in rear-end collisions. After a crash kills three teenage girls, an Indiana prosecutor charges Ford Motor Company with reckless homicide and recruits an idealistic DePaul law professor to help take on the corporation. Fifty years later, that professor’s son writes a play to investigate what happened—and to ask: who is responsible when tragedy strikes?
Eight actors take on over forty roles as Pinto weaves together trial transcripts, the lives of the teenage girls, the prosecutors fighting the case, and the Ford executives at its center.
In this innovative co-production, artists from A Red Orchid Theatre collaborate with students from The Theatre School at DePaul to further develop the play in a workshop setting and present a staged reading for the public.
