Enter the mind of Christoph Niemann. His current solo exhibition is set against his “Idea Diary” wallpaper, beautifully produced in collaboration with Area Environments, transforming the gallery into an immersive sketchbook. Drawn from years of journals and notebooks, Niemann revisits forgotten ideas, half-formed thoughts, and strange bits of brilliance. The result: witty, ironic, insightful imagery and plenty of nonsense (including lists that must have felt profound at the time, but now mean absolutely nothing). A personal favorite: Banana strings > clean legs. Original works and limited-edition prints are installed throughout, including several pieces created specifically for Nashville (y'all got a cowboy hat for the rooster?). Based in Minneapolis, Area Environments collaborates with artists worldwide to produce wallcoverings and murals across retail, hospitality, and residential spaces. Artist-driven from the start, they ensure creators receive ongoing royalties. Niemann's design is not for sale, but their decision to sponsor this project reflects a deep commitment to supporting contemporary artists and made this exhibition possible. “Idea Diary” is on view through May 30th at ZieherSmith Edgehill (1207 King Hollands Ave) and online. @areaenvironments @studiochristophniemann @abstractsunday #christophniemann #wallpaper #areaenvironments #artwallpaper #mural

Launching 05.04.26! The Area Environments Collection brings together a growing body of in-house designs created to celebrate texture, artistry, and versatility in wallcovering. This season, the collection expands with new patterns that explore the beauty of grasscloth in fresh ways. By painting directly onto natural grasscloth and reimagining its distinctive texture on smooth, high-performance surfaces, these designs capture the warmth and dimension of traditional grasscloth while offering greater durability and ease of use. The result is a collection that balances the richness of handcrafted materials with the practical needs of contemporary interiors.

New pieces launching 05.04.26! Based in Zumbrota, Minnesota, Wendy Westlake was born in Washington state. She earned an associate’s degree in applied art from Pima College in Tucson, Arizona, where she studied a wide range of media including oils, printmaking, and ceramics. Upon moving to Minnesota in 1992, Westlake connected with the watercolor community in the Twin Cities area. She became a board member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society in 2012, serving as MNWS president from 2014 to 2016. A desire to work on a larger scale than paper pulled Westlake back to her earlier training with acrylic and oils. Her work is influenced by her background in watercolor, as well as the tradition of American Abstract Expressionism.

New piece launching 05.04.26! Lesley Frenz is an artist working in acrylics and watercolors. Born and raised in coastal North Florida, she received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Florida where she studied Art History and Studio Arts. After working in several creative industries, Frenz left Florida in 2011 to travel the West and Northwest with her husband. While traveling, she wrote a successful art blog and began freelance work on behalf of galleries and artists, but never stopped painting. Years of travel and living among such incredible beauty spilled out in January 2013 as she pursued a serious studio practice while continuing to travel. An avid hiker and backpacker, Frenz finds inspiration in wild places and her studio practice is centered around the exploration of the intersectionality between the spiritual and earthbound in the form of abstracted landscape paintings. Frenz began exhibiting work in 2015, followed soon by her first solo exhibition in 2016, she is represented by J. Rinehart Gallery in Seattle, WA. Frenz and her husband have found home in Mount Vernon, Washington, a small town nestled in the Skagit Valley between the North Cascade mountains and the Salish Sea.

New pieces launching 05.04.26! Jeralyn Victoria is a full-time artist based in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is a graduate of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, where she earned a BFA in painting. Victoria grew up in North Dakota where minimalist landscape, access to nature, and occasional extreme weather influenced her love of raw, earthy texture, and industrious use of unexpected materials. Jeralyn Victoria’s art honors that the home is a larger body; our dwellings generously mirror our inner curiosity, play, and need for grounding. By employing a distressed surface, cross-stitching, or weaving with upcycled silk, Victoria’s work supports a poetic design that embraces imperfection and soulful detail.

New pieces launching 05.04.26! Elise Morris is a working artist exploring nature’s point of view, particularly fleeting moments of growth and change. Finding beauty in the unexpected, she works from a deep desire to learn her natural surroundings. Elise begins each piece with a simple line drawing, and adds layers and layers of translucent paint. The resulting paintings and drawings explore concepts of nature, at the edge of abstraction. Elise received a B.A. in painting and printmaking at UC Santa Cruz in 1997, and is the recipient of the Hyde and Benteen Irwin Scholarship for excellence and promise in the visual arts. In 2005, she received a Master of Fine Arts from the JFK University Arts & Consciousness program in Berkeley, CA. She has exhibited extensively, and has work in corporate and individual collections throughout the U.S. and internationally. She is represented by several galleries nationally. Elise currently lives and works in Northern California.

New piece launching 05.04.26! After receiving her degree in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia in 1980, Charlotte Terrell began work as a landscape architect for New York City Parks involving the restoration of 19th-century areas of Central Park and other historic landscapes. She apprenticed with master finisher Ina Marks, of the Isabel O’Neil School of Antique and Art Restoration, to learn the craft of mid-19th-century decorative painting. Terrell’s century-old decorative painting techniques have naturally translated into her fine art pieces; her subject matter is informed by her passion for—and expertise in—landscape design. She was born and raised in Columbus, Mississippi and currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee.

Launching 05.04.26! Nicole Rose is a British abstract artist whose luminous oil paintings inhabit the space between memory and landscape. Born in London, she graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1992 with a BA in Graphic Design and spent more than two decades running a successful East London design studio before turning to painting full-time. Inspired by immersive experiences in the natural world, Rose translates emotional impressions of woodlands, shifting light, and distant shorelines into layered oil paintings that evoke nostalgia, familiarity, and a quiet sense of place. Her background in design informs her refined compositions and sensitive use of color. Rose’s work has been exhibited widely in London and internationally, including at Glasshouse Contemporary, the Affordable Art Fair, The Other Art Fair, and Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, and her paintings have been commissioned by Park Hyatt and the Chancery Rosewood.

Launching 05.04.26! Mary Jo Hoffman is an artist and photographer known for her intimate and contemplative engagement with the natural world. She is the creator of STILL, a daily photographic practice in which, for more than a decade, she created one image each day of a foraged natural object such as, leaves, seedpods, flowers, insects, and other quiet seasonal remnants, isolated against a white background. What began as a daily act of noticing evolved into a meditation on connectedness, time, and the creative life. Her book, STILL: The Art of Noticing, now in its fourth printing, features 275 photographs from the project accompanied by thoughtful and often gently humorous essays reflecting on the insights gained through years of sustained observation. Hoffman lives in Shoreview, Minnesota, on the shores of Turtle Lake, where the surrounding woods, fields, and water continue to provide daily inspiration for her practice.

Launching 05.04.26! Melissa Griffith grew up in the Mississippi Delta, where her love of painting first took root. She studied at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and now lives and works in Bentonville, Arkansas. Melissa builds her compositions through many layers of transparent paint, creating depth and luminosity through simple, refined forms. Working primarily in soft, muted palettes, her pieces carry an ethereal quality— quiet and atmospheric, almost like a whisper. As an emerging female artist, she is both proud and grateful to continue doing what she loves while connecting with collectors and designers who resonate with her work. With more than 30 years of painting experience, Melissa has had her work represented in interior shops, galleries, and art shows throughout the region. Her paintings have also been featured on the HGTV series Fixer to Fabulous, bringing her signature aesthetic into homes across the country.

Launching 05.04.26! Lauren Pizzi began studying oil painting at eleven under artist and mentor Sue Gilkey and earned her BFA in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2015. After working in interior design, her practice evolved from early influences in Impressionist landscapes and still lifes toward contemporary figurative work that explores the unseen realities of chronic illness. Her paintings incorporate immersive backgrounds and patterned garments that merge with the figure, reflecting how illness can become interwoven with identity and daily life. Alongside her painting practice, she creates repeating patterns inspired by anatomical forms and florals, translating them into textiles and wallpaper; her work has been exhibited in the US and internationally, and she lives and works in Massachusetts.
