🌍 On Earth Day the ACAN Circular Economy Taskforce hosted a packed and energising discussion on The Business Case for Circular Construction at White Arkitekter’s London studio.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us.
The panel featured experts across the material reuse value chain, covering design, manufacturing, storage and logistics, policy, project management, fit-out and deconstruction:
- Christian Dimbleby, Head of Sustainability UK at White Arkitekter and member of the ACAN Circular Economy taskgroup
- Talia Berriman, Head of Green Economy, London Borough of Newham
- Charnett Chau, Life Cycle Services Lead, Saint-Gobain UK & Ireland
- Joel De Mowbray, Director, Yes Make and Tipping Point East
- Oscar Leigh-Hales, Sustainability Advisor, ODGroup
- Patrick Watson, Partner, 3pm Project Management
Chaired by Christian Dimbleby, the session questioned: how do we make circular construction stack up commercially - and communicate that clearly to decision-makers?
Three initial take-aways from the evening:
1. Reuse strategies need clear articulation
2. Logistics and services are key to optimising benefits
3. Policy incentives support the social and business case
Many thanks to the speakers, attendees, and event support for an inspiring evening🙌
Join us for an in person bookclub special at Futurebuild 2026! @futurebuildnow
In line with Futurebuild’s theme of connection, ACAN Climate Literacy Bookclub is moving offline for an in person session to discuss ‘How to Fall in Love with the Future: A Time Traveller’s Guide to Changing the World by Rob Hopkins’
We’re only 4 years from 2030, the year set out in the Paris Climate Agreement for limiting warming to 1.5 degrees. We know achieving this seems increasingly impossible. What we need now more than ever is hope, optimism, and radical collective imagination.
📍Come join us at the ExCel London, Stand H25 to meet and discuss with fellow climate time travellers.
📚 Book swap! As a bonus, please bring a climate themed book with you to swap with another member of the session.
There will be no online capacity with this event

Studies show the UK’s 28.6 million homes are among the least energy efficient in Europe and lose heat up to three times faster than on the continent, making people poorer and colder.
We need to act now. Come see us at Futurebuild next week for the launch of our new campaign and find out how you can help take action ✊

Register for our upcoming technical webinar on Ventilation and Air Quality!
📅21st May 2026
⏰13:00 - 14:00
📍Zoom
Poor ventilation is one of the most overlooked drivers of unhealthy buildings and one of the most consequential decisions for energy use and carbon. This session makes the case for why air quality deserves serious attention: as a health issue, a regulatory consideration, and a worthwhile investment of time and budget.
From that foundation, the session moves into the core principles of how ventilation works, surveying the main system types and offering honest comparisons of alternative approaches. Rather than treating systems as equivalent choices, the session explores what each achieves in practice, including where they excel and where they fall short.
The design perspective then takes centre stage, covering the practical challenge of integrating ventilation into buildings—from early-stage coordination through to construction. This includes how to manage the tension between fresh air delivery and heat loss, what different approaches mean for energy and carbon targets, and how to interpret efficiency metrics in context.
The session closes by shifting focus to outcomes: how to define what good performance looks like for a given system, how to assess whether it is being delivered in use, and what the evidence says regarding the “when, what and why” of different strategies.
🗣️ Featuring speakers Will South from Etude, Simon Jones from Air Quality Matters and Federica Romeo from Studio PDP
