Donald Judd Spaces: 1977/2026
An exhibition presented by Judd Foundation at Architecture
8010 Melrose Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90046
On view May 9-29, 2026
Archival and newly commissioned photography of Donald Judd’s spaces in Marfa, Texas and New York City documented in 1977 and 2026.
The exhibition includes two sets of photographs of Judd’s living and working spaces in New York and Texas captured fifty years apart, documenting the permanent nature of his installations. “The purpose of the foundation is to preserve my work and that of others and to preserve this work in spaces I consider appropriate for it,” Judd wrote in 1977, “This effort has been a concern second only to the invention of my work. And gradually the two concerns have joined and both tend toward architecture.”
The exhibition is based on a selection of archival photographs captured by Annabelle d’Huart, in 1977. These include Judd’s residences and studios at 101 Spring Street and within La Mansana de Chinati, the Block, in Marfa. The photographs also include Judd at Casa Lujan, his first residence in town.
Organized by Flavin Judd, Artistic Director of Judd Foundation and co-editor of Donald Judd Spaces (Judd Foundation and MACK, 2026).
