10 years ago, it was just me, a desk, a computer and an overabundance of coffee. Fast forward, and now we’ve got a whole team making the magic happen (and still a lot of coffee). Here's to learning the hard way that teamwork really does make the dream work! Thank you to the team who helped shape 10 years of design, challenge, and change. We’ve also been incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by an amazing circle of industry colleagues, consultants, and clients who have become like family. When in doubt, architects check “The Code” to verify specific building requirements. If you hear an architect talking about “The Code”, they are referring to the state building code. Every US state has their own Building Code. Additionally, depending on the local jurisdiction that the project is located in, there is a Municipal Code that needs to be followed for zoning and planning regulations. This is to ensure that the properties meet land development guidelines, and the space complies with egress and accessibility requirements, but most of all, that any project does not interfere with fire & life safety. It’s even a good tool to support professionals and agencies through interpretation. You know that saying “It takes a village to raise a child’? Well it takes a team to bring a project to life. It’s not just an architect/designer working on a project. Depending on the scope of work, there are other consultants involved. These consultants can include MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) engineers, structural engineers, civil engineers, landscape architects, and many others. On most projects, an architect/designer acts as an umbrella for all of the people working on a project. Therefore, it is the architect/designer’s responsibility to coordinate with our consultants and make sure their work is completed in a timely manner.
