Our newly completed landscaping works at ARC West London are now open for our members. This is ahead of the main works completed at the year's end, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. When complete, Refinery, at ARC West London will be a state-of-the-art home for life science organisations in the UK, offering 150,000 sq. ft of high-spec laboratory, research, and development space under one roof. Ascending to new heights. We are thrilled to announce that ARC Oxford has secured planning permission for Ascent, a new state-of-the-art facility designed for the science, technology, and innovation sector. This development will replace seven existing buildings and is expected to create approximately 500 jobs and contribute £38 million GVA to the economy annually. We were thrilled to be taken on another tour last week, to see the latest advancements in the development of Building 5510 at our @arcoxford.io campus. The building has been designed to set a new standard for "lab-ready" spaces in the heart of Oxford. As work progresses steadily since our last update, we continue to shape a space that will drive innovation, offering a modern, lab-enabled workspace totalling 2,304 sq m (24,798 sq ft) set over three floors, coupled with 104 car parking spaces. The facility is undergoing extensive refurbishments and will be delivered with a lab-enabled finish, ready for occupier-specific fit outs. A highlight from the visit was the installation framework for the new goods lift, engineered to transport up to 2500KG which is around the weight of a typical fully grown hippo (or an MRI machine if you want to be scientific!). This feature demonstrates our commitment to facilitating seamless, multi-floor lab operations, ensuring you can move equipment and supplies efficiently and with ease. ARC is at the forefront of redefining laboratory environments to embrace neurodiversity, recognising that around 20% of individuals exhibit neurological differences such as autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. Historical geniuses like Einstein and Edison, who were neurodivergent, demonstrate the immense potential within this community. Our initiative spans over 300 organisations and 10,000 members across sectors like life sciences and quantum physics, aiming to create lab spaces that support collaboration and innovation for all neurotypes. Despite significant research on neuroinclusive workplaces, applying these insights to laboratory settings remains uncharted territory. Led by our Director of Development, Jenny Gardner, and in partnership with environmental psychologist Dr. Edward Edgerton and HOK architects, is pioneering this effort.
