During our final stop in Rome, we alternated between being deeply moved, needing a cappuccino & the creeping realization that every european woman in a puffer knew something we didn’t. 🥶
In 48 hours, Mom and I ate our way through Assisi, briefly communed with an 800-year-old relic (👋 Saint Francis!), did a little Googling on the patron saint of the internet (👋 Saint Carlo Acutis), then melted into a hammam ritual @nunrelais spa and discovered the most special little shop @madamebovary1977 ✨
Seventeen years ago, I wrote a thesis about 1970s food advertising in @seventeen magazine.
I found a printed copy in a closet this week, complete with margin doodles from @andreweisenman .
It was 2009 when I submitted it: Instagram hadn’t arrived yet and neither had GLP1 discourse.

And yet, the parallels to right now are…not subtle.
So I overanalyzed it on Substack. I refuse to waste a coincidence!
A stranger tried to intentionally run me over this week. Unfortunately, I’m still standing. It even ended my Substack hibernation!
I’ve been thinking about what it means to inhabit a body in public space and to call that body woman.

The internet, for all its noise and fracture, still allows us to find each other.

Thanks @stepsofstyle for WOMAN ✨
