It’s been a gift to hear from folks around the country who after watching our first documentary, PLAINSPOKEN, were inspired to have new conversations around their kitchen tables, in their workplaces, within their own mind and heart about how do we SEE and LOVE our neighbors. But to screen the film in rooms with real live people has been an extra special surprise of goodness. To experience their feedback, their questions, real-time…conversation—this is why we made PLAINSPOKEN.
Thank you to our new friend Doug and the King School of Southern Studies at Mercer University, and our dear friend Dave at The Webb School for hosting the three of us and cultivating new thoughts through the film’s message. We hope the community of Plains are proud. And we hope Jimmy would be pleased. #plainspoken #plainspokenfilm
Attending our first film festival. In New York City (no less!). Plainspoken was screened as an official selection at this year’s Justice Film Festival alongside a handful of other beautiful films (including 2025 Academy Award nominees!) that are bringing light to conversations of social justice that affirm the dignity of all people (that’s everyone!).
Held at the Fashion Institute of Technology during fashion week (fashion, not our forte!). Thank you to NBC’s Alex Lo for the thoughtful Q&A, and Andy Peterson (and @docsologyfilms !) #justicefilmfestival
Our PLAINSPOKEN director, Andrew Greer, shares footage of President Carter’s final journey as his official motorcade passes in front of Andrew’s home in President Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia, to Atlanta, Washington D.C., and eventually, back home to Plains next Thursday.
He also talks about the personal impetus for making the documentary, PLAINSPOKEN, and how it inspired him to make Plains his new hometown.

Jimmy Carter 1924-2024
We began filming the documentary that became PLAINSPOKEN on October 1, 2020, President Carter’s 96th birthday.
We captured our first shots from atop a peanut wagon pulled by a tractor manned by our new (and now good) friends and Plains peanut farmers George and Jan Williams. In a procession of golf carts, tractor trailers, trucks and cars bedazzled with birthday paraphernalia, we rolled through the gates of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s home in Plains to wish the 39th President of the United States a happy birthday from an appropriate pandemic-era distance.
This video of that first journey to Plains is a sample of the sheer joy the people, and the President and First Lady from Plains, have brought to our personal lives through our professional endeavor to create a film that speaks to race relationships in everyday community, as seen through the eyes and influence of Jimmy Carter, Rosalynn Carter, and the people of Plains.
