🖼️ Next Thursday Night is Mystery Art: A Sketching Exercise 🖼️
What is this? In this activity we’ll be finding out together! You’ll receive a random title and a random description and then create the artwork that fits them. All types and levels of artists are welcome — what matters most is that you bring your creativity!
Paper and simple supplies will be provided, bring anything else you’d like to create your artwork with
@the500x gallery’s show at Apprentice will be leaving at the end of this month and our walls will be bare! So, this June we’ve decided to do something different - we’re looking for local queer artists that want a space to display their work!
Submissions are open now through Saturday 5/16 at 11:45pm
Installation will be on 5/27, and pieces will be up until 6/29
Our closing reception will be the last Friday of the month on 6/26 at 7pm

Congratulations to our College Expo winners, and to all of the artists who exhibited their work! Our winners received cash prizes, and our 1st place winner, Jeff Felderhoff, will have a solo show at next year’s College Expo.

This month, SpecLit is going analog 📬 Join us for a letter writing workshop on May 28th @apprentice.oakcliff ✍🏾
Letter writing is an ancient mode of communication, personal archiving, and connection. Some of my earliest memories include writing letters back and forth to my grandma, and we continued this practice up until her passing 💐 Learning at a young age that you don’t need anything but pencil, paper, and a stamp to make yourself heard and keep connection alive has become a foundational tenet to my writing practice. I hope this workshop will introduce you to the joys of keeping a penpal and even writing letters to your past and future self 💌
Come out to discuss your favorite epistolary (def: a book or text written in the form of a letter or series of letters) texts and write letters to your homie-lovers on fun stationery! There will also be information on current political prisoners in the United States and information on how to write to them and/or become a penpal for an incarcerated comrade.
